Lady Bug - I just booked a wedding in the area for next Fall (October 9, 2010), so if you need any help, I've been in touch with quite a few vendors, so I can help you out!

Hi! I am a lurker.  My name is Jen and I am getting married in 2 WEEKS!  Yikes.  I can't believe it took me this long to come out.

taccoten - Oh cool! That'll be a week before me! :) My FI and I are going to look at places once my sister gets married 10.17. I have a few places in mind! When he proposed he brought over a booklet that the store gave him with places that are local in it. I already stickied some venues. Thanks!

Lady Bug - I hope I don't make you feel overwhelmed, however the craziest thing (I'm telling you - people are nutso!) is that our venue is already booked all four Saturdays next October.  Some places book up to two years out from a date.  If you have a few in mind, a lot of venues will pencil you in (just in case) for a date, even if you haven't been out to see it yet.  You don't have to put any money down or anything...This just alerts them to call you and give you first dibs if someone else shows interest on your date.  Just a bit of advice - and I'm glad I did that because our wedding is over a year away and our wedding month is fully booked.  Crazy!  If you don't mind me asking, which venues do you like?  You can let me know after you book if you want!

tacco - I was thinking of Phoenixville Foundry as one of them. I can't think of any of the others of the top of my head. I guess I should call the places? Ah! Someone the other day asked if I have the place yet, and I said it's too crazy right now with my sister's wedding for me to look at places. I'm in school and I work night shift on most Fridays. I'm excited but freaking out at the same time since people say how quickly things fill up.My sister is have her ceremony and reception at Robert Ryan's Catering at the Columbia Station. I was even considering them since they've been a real pleasure!

You'll be fine if you wait a few more weeks.  I just wouldn't wait months.  You can always call or email them and maybe set up some appointments for post-sister-wedding so at least you know when you'll be checking them out.  Phoenixville Foundry looks fabulous!  I love it!  Good luck and just have fun!

Oh definitely! I told him, "look forward to checking places out once Dar and Preston are married!" He's actually looking forward to looking at places!! :) YAY!!

I've been lurking here for a while... been in quite a few weddings, and this board was helpful as a BM for all of them, but now I get to plan my own! (Just engaged 9/3/09!) I'm hoping to get married around next September (give or take a few weeks.) I've already looked at Knowlton Mansion, Merion Tribute House, ACE Center, and the Audubon center. Does anybody have any good/bad experiences with any of those places? Or pictures from events there - I'd LOVE to see some pics!! Thanks!!

Hi! I'm a newbie. I'm Sara, 36, and am recently engaged. This will actually be my second wedding (was divorced a few years ago). I have a 5 year old dd who is very excited to be the flower girl! We are planning an April 2010 wedding - nothing big, just a small ceremony/reception with our family and close friends - probably on a Sunday afternoon. Did the big wedding thing before and have no desire to repeat it! I live in Delco and work in Center City. We are looking at a few places this weekend for possible wedding sites - Tyler Arboretum, Mansion at Ridley Creek, and Bolingbroke Mansion. The last time I planned a wedding was 13 years ago and there was no internet sites back then! So, I'm a little overwhelmed by all the information out here. And very out of practice! Look forward to chatting with you all and exchanging advice/ideas! ~Sara~

hs- I visited the Audubon Center last weekend and am going again on Sunday to talk with the event planner about pricing & get a more detailed tour. I am IN LOVE with it so far so hopefully everything works out to my parents' liking as well :) What did you think when you went?

Hi all!I've already posted some, but I wanted to say hi to other newbies/lurkers!Got engaged August 28th while on vacation in the Caribbean, and we are now planning to have the wedding down where we got engaged with just family and a few close friends in March 2011, then have a big ole party/reception back home a few weeks after! So far I've only looked at Elkins Estate, and it was GORGEOUS but not really us. Heading to World Cafe Live today to take a tour, but I also want to look at the Adventure Aquarium, the Please Touch Museum, the Seaport Museum--and any other suggestions will be accepted for cool, funky venues! Thanks everyone, and welcome and Hi!

I'm also a lurker/occasional poster.  My name is Jessica and my fiance proposed on July 4th.  We currently live in DC and have booked PAFA for 10/10/10 -- so excited!!

Caromelia - I checked out the Currents Ballroom at Adventure Aquarium and thought it was very cool.  It has the unique shark tanks, but the rest of the room is just a very modern reception room... so its different, but not too wierd.  If I didn't have so many out of town guests I probably would be getting married there.  We didn't like the idea of OOT people wandering around Camden and possibly getting lost.
