Family style seating? How do I tell them where they are sitting?

We are doing family style seating instead of round tables, but we do not know how we can number the tables or seats so that our guest do not get confused. It will be around 2 to 3 8 ft rectangle tables put together with seating on either side. Any thoughts?? THANKS C&M

Do a seating chart at the entrance, depicting the layout of the room, and who is seated where at each table.  Then put place cards at each seat with the person's name.  

I go to a  number of formal events for work, and we always sit at long tables.  This is how they do it, and it works like a charm.

I am also doing a seating chart but I am doing it where I type out and enlarge each persons name and table number and then matted and framed out at the cocktail hour so people can identify their table.  I will have their names already placed on the table with the menu of their specific meal choice.  Also, my wedding planner will have a master list just in case people ask her.  

I did this to make sure certain people are at specific tables and because it is easier for the venue and wait staff to know where the meals are going.
