Vintage Carnival themed reception...what are your suggestions?

Alright fellow brides, I need some suggestions! We are planning a vintage carnival themed reception in November. Our colors are going to be red and aqua. We do not want it to be cheesy/tacky so we are doing more of a vintage theme with some carnival accents. We are planning on having a burger bar as the main meal and then stations with hotdogs popcorn, cotton candy, and roasted peanuts for the guests. Do you have any other ideas for us?

Re: Vintage Carnival themed reception...what are your suggestions?

  • Sounds like a clever birthday party theme, or a theme for a casual wedding on the beach with reception in a shelter nearby.
  • Love the suggestion in PP of doing a sort of gourmet popcorn stand/bar/station.  How about a soft pretzel cart or station with different dipping sauces (cheese, caramel, garlic butter, chocolate/Nutella)?  Candy or caramel apples also came to mind (esp. since it will be fall) as either a snack or favor.

Decorate your venue with penants and flags in your carnival wedding colors
Pinterest had a recipe for making caramel apples with apple slices, because many people don't want to eat a whole caramel apple.
Big pitchers of lemonade and fresh apple cider.
Carnivals always serve something on a stick...maybe fruit kabobs on a stick or caprese salad (tomato, basil, mozzarella brushed with a little balsamic dressing)on a stick.  They might be a little more elegant than a typical corndog.
Offbeat Bride has featured a number of carnival wedding www.offbeatbride.com. Some of the ideas are out there, but it is great for inspiration.
Make a box to look like a ticket collector's station. Striped fabric/paper and hand lettered signs.
  • You might also want to post this on the Vintage or Offbeat Wedding Theme board.
