Reception on a yacht?

My FI and I are thinking about having our reception on a yacht. We recently went to see a few yachts and we love the idea. Has anyone been to a reception on a yacht? We are probably going to have about 75 people. Any thoughts?

  • I would make sure no one in either family, or close friends, suffer from seasickness. This is would a really long and horrible reception if they did.

  • My best friend got married on a big boat on Lake Michigan off of downtown Chicago.  I was the MOH.  It was a great wedding.  There were two levels, one on the main deck and one below.  The food and bar was set up below and the DJ and dancing was on the main deck.  Everyone had a great time, danced and drank.  It was a blast.

Those that were seasick planned ahead and brought Dramamine.

  • Ooh-that's what my brother and SIL did, and it was a wonderful wedding.  It was a smaller guest list than yours:  I'd guess maybe 20-25 people but I don't think that's a problem other than adequate ceremony viewing room.  But you can choose your yacht with that in mind.

We went out of Boston Harbor and sailed until they found a cove that they liked.  They had the captain stop there.  They stood on the bow with their officiant as they were married.  When they kissed at the end of the ceremony, people in smaller pleasure crafts clapped, cheered, blew whistles, along with us.  It was cute.

Then we enjoyed a lovely lunch, fabulous weather, and a great trip back to the harbor.  I loved their wedding!
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I wondered about people who might get seasick, but I was told they only go out onto the harbor so it should be fine. I considered having dramamine  available for any guests who need it. Now they have the kind that doesn't make you sleepy. I'm getting married in a church then the reception will be on the yacht. I love the idea as the water and sunset as a beautiful view for us and our guests to enjoy.
  • That sounds beautiful! Best of luck with your planning.
