Looking for a first dance song! Help!

My fiancee and I dated when we were very young, and broke up. We spent a few years apart, but always knew that we should be together. We're in our late twenties now, and after all the bullSh!t, have finally realized that we were supposed to spend the rest of our lives together, and we're looking for a first dance song about a love like that - like, I should have known it was you...that kind of sentiment.

Any ideas?

  • We used "Lucky" by Jason Mraz and I think it could fit your situation.  The "do you hear me?  I'm talking to you" part is calling out to you both while you were both apart.
  • Ryan Adams does a beautiful version of Wonderwall, it was our runner up for 1st dance song and we still played it at the reception.
  • Hmm... maybe...

Shania Twain - You're Still the One
Savage Garden - I knew I loved you

Can't find any others on my list right now. Our song was Unforgettable. :)

  • The only thing popping in my head along those lines is Rascall Flatt's "Bless the Broken Road." It kind of talks about faltering along the way, going through a lot of crap before finding him, etc. It really is a nice song if you like country (although I don't think it sounds overly country--I hate country and still like it).

We used At Last by Etta James.  DH and I were high school sweethearts (never split up) and finally married in our late 20s.  We thought it was appropriate for our situation.

  • I suggested "God Bless the Broken Road" but it was his and his ex gf's song.

  • "I Was Brought to My Senses" by Sting. My FI and I had a rocky start, too, and this song is just a perfect way to express that it was all worth it.
