Mother/Son - Not Sentimental- HELP!

Our wedding is in less than a week and we still don't have this song.

My FH is not that close with his mom and actually didn't want to do the dance at first but we compromised and are now having them start the dance for the evening.
After our first dance and my father/daughter they will dance to something for about 30sec to 1 min and then others will be invited to join.

He wants something slightly upbeat and not really sentimental but nothing seems to be appropriate.

Any ideas?

Re: Mother/Son - Not Sentimental- HELP!

  • How about "Rhythm of the Night" by Debarge or "All Night Long" by Lionell Richie.  They are both upbeat and great songs to get people up and dancing.    Also he can pick a favorite song of this or one you and your friends always listen to, ours is Journey "Don't Stop Believin'" and Michael Jackson " Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough". The mother/son dance doesn't need to be slow. They should be comfortable. Pick a crowd pleaser and it will start the dancing off with a bang.
  • If he's not close to his mother then skip the dance. Otherwise it's a farce for appearance's sake.
  • What if they did something funny?  I went to a wedding once where the groom and his mom started to slow song and then broke out into the chicken dance. They could go up there and pretend like they will slow dance and then the DJ could play something like "The Twist" and ask everyone to join them.  Thats a good upbeat song and it will save them the hassle of having to pretend they want to do this dance, as well as get the dancing started for the night.
