[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Eloping... Cokctail party reception back home. Bridal party ideas??? : horrible advice. we aren't saying that because it is different it is wrong; PPs were saying that because it is poor etiquette, has the possibility to be offensive/hurtful to some parties, and that in choosing to get married the way she plans, she is also choosing to forego certain things, unless, that is, she is planning a PPD, which is again poor etiquette.

Hmmmmmmm. Everybody has a different view of what poor etiquette is..........

All Im saying is its her wedding/party whatever, so its pretty much her choice. Just because you believe some guests/people may take offense does not mean that thats the way her guest/party (the people she knows more than us) will. She knows if it would offend them or not because those are friends/family etc. We cant assume anything in regards to the people she will invite considering we do not know them or how they think. Im sure we all have people from different backgrounds/personalities so just because we may know someone who would be offended by that does not mean she knows people like that. Thank you and have a blessed day.

[QUOTE]Did you know that there are religions/cultures where it is customary for the bridal party to NOT be involved in the ceremony or walk down the aisle as they do in traditional American weddings?  Did you know that they are only involved in the reception because being involved in the ceremony is sort of "taboo"?

Do you belong to one of these religions or cultures?  If so, why did you come to a message board that you know is full of people who are not from these religions and cultures and ask your question without providing any context about your choice to have a bridal party at the reception but not the ceremony?
  • Wow, some of you are being really harsh on her! Seriously, she just wants the commraderie (sp?) of a wedding party and to recognize the special people in her life. And yes, some guests are more special than others.

I think you should talk to who your wedding party would be and ask them for ideas. You could do a special entrance where your dad walks you in and gives you away, reaffirm your vows with your husband in front of your family and friends and then cut the cake, do the "first" dance, etc. It's your party....

As far as pictures, again, just ask your "wedding party" if they'd be willing to dress a certain way. There's not necessarily a reason to go buy a new dress if they don't want to or cant afford it, but some people like new clothes...

Overall, just do what you want to do, discuss it with your "wedding party" and make it as real as possible. I think if you try to recreate too much, it might seem fake.

I think you have a great idea and don't listen to the people who think its ridiculous. To each his own....

Good luck! and hope it turns out well!
