How much liquor for Reception?

I'm planning on a total of 5 open bar hours with around 150 people.  The quote from my bar service had 52 bottles (I'm quessing fifths) listed plus 3 kegs.  Does that seems high?  The on-line calculator I found suggested 29 bottles.

Re: How much liquor for Reception?

  • I would open the bar during the cocktail hour, close it for dinner, reopen it for dancing & close it about 1 hour before you need to be out of the venue.  Start serving coffee about 2 hours before everybody has to leave.  This will give the guests a chance to sober up some.  Is the guest list 150 adults or are some of them underage?  How heavy does the venue pour?  Is it a 1 ounce or a 2 ounce pour?  What size are the bottles?  Fifth or half gallon?  Can you stick to a single brand per type or do you have to have well/call/top shelf?  A keg holds 141 red party cups of beer if that helps you any.  How old is the average adult guest?  A 25 year old will often drink more than a 55 year old.
