Wedding Day Time line

So we decided to get married in Hawaii. I got my time line and quote from my planner for the rehearsal dinner and the day of. So I looked at my menus and the bon fire activities for the rehearsal dinner we have planned to have on the beach. I felt like we would be having way more fun at the rehearsal over the wedding day reception. So my thought was well why not change things up. My thought is to have the ceremony like at 12noon then enjoy our cocktail hour with our guests and then cut the cake. Then we would go off and have plenty of time to take pictures at the resort and other places on the island. Our guest can go and do whatever and then come back to the resort in more casual clothes, us too, and then do a fun Bon Fire Hawaiian bar-b-q at sunset like around 6 or 7. Does this sound crazy? We would do a nice sit down rehearsal dinner at one of the restaurants the night before or a nice lunch.
Opinions welcome:)

  • A lot of guests prefer to not have the split.  I would switch the ceremony and the pictures, and do the photos before the ceremony.  As a guest away from home, I would be extremely frustrated if I was expected to go to the ceremony, then go back to the hotel for a few hours and then go to the reception.

And I'm always up for a nice sit down RD.  I do like that part.
  • Fiance' made the decision. Also got word from the FS planner on the time line. He said we will ask the fam what they want. We got four e-mails saying they would appreciate at least a couple of hours just to get kids situated with child care and getting kids ready for bed and fed that way they can enjoy cocktail hour and change and get kids situated. Five families have children. One couple said this a vacation and with this many kids they where very appreciative that we where considering there children's welfare because to drag a child through a whole wedding start to finish is just too much. One family was already stressing about how they where going to enjoy cocktail hour and not miss the beginning of the reception because they did not want to bring there kids to the reception. So we decided to use the free Nanny service at the FS for the parents that have children that are not staying at the FS. Three of the families are staying at the Four Seasons so they will use the Nanny service as well. So we will start the Ceremony at 3:30pm and start the reception at 6:30 that way we start the bon fire at sun down.  FS planner said people linger usually at the ceremony/cocktail location because it is so nice for much longer then an hour. As long as we keep the Bar open people will hang around the whole time and then move on to the reception. She said she would direct people to the Spa locker room to change if they like.
  • I think that your situation is more flexible since it is a destination wedding.  I think that your idea to split it up will work fine since it sounds like all of your guests will be at nearby resorts.
