Does anyone REALLY believe the world is going to end this year?

hahahaa FI thinks that there will be a lot of change that happens that day, while his BM is dead certain that the world will end on 12.21...haha..It cracks me up everytime I hear them talk about it...where I am uncertain..I think that there will be change, not drastic change...but then my supersticious side thinks it will end...and we'll be back to square 1 of the whole Adam & Eve thing (teehee)

Yeah, I think there will be some changes too.  What I really do not understand is why the Mayans went with 12-21.  Wouldn't 12-12-12 make more sense as a day for the world to end since it is the last date like that for a long time?

shelby I love your spirit and that's my general attitude.  Oh well if it ends I've had a good life so far and I'll be married.  I don't think it will end.

I don't beleive it. However, whenever my mom complains about the wedding costing too much I tell her its ok, the world is ending and she won't need the money anyway! We joke about it a lot because she is insitsting that we are all together that day, "just in case".

It all has to do with calculations.

I watched a progrm about all this and there's more than just the Mayans who are predicting the woarld to end on this day.  Nostradamus did as well.  Astrologists say that every X amount of years the sunhas solar flares which are great enough to destroy most of the living organisms on earth and it happens that their calculations are also for 12.21.12  

there's the galactic alignment theory that predicts that pole shifts, earthquakes, solar flares, magnetic field reversals and other disasters will threaten humanity as well and this will start on 12.21.12

There's also the Hopi Indians prophercy and they've successfully predicted cataclasmic events as well.

There's alot of things that point towards this day as the "end of the world', but I would rather believe that they are all wrong...

I'd rather to not believe it but I always say if the world is actually going to end, then it will end- there's nothing we can do about it. If we die, then be it, we will die.

Maybe they just got tired of writing out calendars and just stopped at a random date.

I agree with you.  If we are going to die at least we will all be going together.  But no I don't believe in it.

I'm not sure if I really believe it or not. I've grown up with a very religious mother always talking about the end times and she doesn't think it will be long until the world ends and all that kind of religious held belief that is in Revelations. So I'm always worried about the world ending anyways, just not on that specific day. I just figure I'll go on living my life and enjoy every event that I actually get and when the time comes and the world ends it ends and I've done all that I can and wanted to do.

I honestly don't know. I'm like 99% sure the world wont end, but I think something might happen

Nah I don't buy it at all. Someone is always saying the world is going to end, and the date passes and nothing happens. I don't know enough about the Mayans to begin to guess what it means, but in my mind I consider it more of the end of a period of time, or a rotation of some sort. But, like others said, if it ends I'll be dead and won't know it anyways. I just won't get all worked up before it actually happens.

One thing I'll add... IF it is the end, I just hope it is quick and painless and not like the beginning of a long painful end.

Not a chance.  (or in any case i don't think it's any more likely than any other day).

But that won't stop me from throwing a big "end of the world/doomsday" party!

I dont believe in Americans misinterperitations of the mayan calander, so I can't believe that the world is ending esp. by the mayan clander which does go well beyond 2012 so I find it hard to believe that the world is going to end on 12-21.
