cake & refreshments

What do people think having a small ceremony about 45-50 people and thinking of just having cake and refreshments after? good or bad idea? is it tacky?

Re: cake & refreshments

  • It's fine if you host it at a time of day that a meal is not expected
  • It's prefectly fine and lovely.   As long as its not during a meal time.    Don't except to last more than a couple of hours.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I am always fine with a meal made of cake!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • As long as this would not be during a meal time, it sounds lovely.  Best wishes!
  • Perfect! Have the ceremony at 2:00 - 2:30 or after 8:00 pm.
  • If that is what you want then go for it but like other posters said make sure its at the appropriate time of the day.  And make it clear on the invites that it will only be cake and refreshments so people don't arrive hungry for a meal.

  • I grew up on this style of receptions, and ours will be pretty similar:  we're serving hors 'douvres, but it will be an early afternoon ceremony and we'll be done by 5/5:30.  It's a lovely, traditional style of wedding -- not tacky at all!
