A unique feel that's not nature or vintage?

I'm having a hard time coming up with any clever, unique ideas for my wedding... it seems a lot of wedding websites (the knot included) are stuck on eco-friendly, nature, outdoor, vintage, rustic, etc. themes. I know these are in style right now, but they do not fit my or my fiance's personality. 

Any ideas for reception stuff for highschool sweethearts... I love reading, psychology, piggy banks, bright colors, unique clothes, and he loves video games, film (he hopes to direct movies in the future), gadgets, gears, and unique inventions? We're very indoorsy people... the closest we come to being at one with nature is owning fish.

I have many scattered ideas, but nothing that really unifies everything... no real "feel" to the day, if you know what I mean? Any ideas for a sort of unifying theme that I could maybe use? I'd prefer to stay away from focusing so much on the "high school sweethearts" aspect, since only four people at our wedding will have any connection to our high school. 

Brainstorming anyone? Please help!

Off Beat Bride has a lot of ideas.  Some vintage, some outdoorsy, but they have a lot of other things as well.

your centerpeice could be psychology books stacked with little gadgets/gears around...you could walk down the ailse to music from a video game (someone on here is doing that), and dress your bridal party in "unique" clothes.  You don't need a theme persay, just as long as it represents you and your man to be!

You don't really need a theme.  We didn't have one.  We just picked the colors that we liked the best and then built our decor on those colors.  I picked centerpieces that were affordable but pretty in our venue, and then used some ideas I found here on the Knot (like a monogrammed aisle runner) and went from there.  PIcs in married bio.

If you have your colors picked out, go to Google Images and do a search for your colors with the word wedding.  So for example, pink and brown wedding, you'll get tons of pictures and inspiration boards.  Start saving the things you like and think about how to incorporate personal things about yourselves.  Start looking at as many bios as you come across here on the Knot too.  That's a great place to get ideas.

You don't have to try to tie in everything about yourselves that you listed in your post but you can tie in some things if you really want to.  A good place to do that is with your cake topper, paper/invitations, and table names/numbers if you're assigning tables.

If you want a theme, what about a movie themed wedding. Posters of movies for table numbers-you could psychology based movies like 50 first dates, Bourne Identity and also add gaming movies like Mario Brothers, etc. I love the book idea for a centerpiece! To incorporate his love for gadgets, you could have robot salt and pepper shakers (www.uncommongoods.com).  You could get one of the really large piggy banks for your card holder.  I think you could make it really fun!

I think in the all-consuming quest to have a special, unique, meaningful, or different wedding, it is no longer so special or unique to have a theme of any kind.

You and your FI, and your tastes and preferences are all unique and special.  so pick colors, styles, and elements you like and don't worry about it.  Your theme can be "things we like", lol.
