wedding insurance?

Does anyone have any tips on wedding insurance?  Is it a good investment?  Where did you buy it?  If you decided not to get it, why not?  Thanks so much!

Re: wedding insurance?

  • We thought about it, but ultimately decided not to.  I haven't heard of someone who got it and actually had to use it or file a claim, so I'd be really curious to hear what that process is like.  I would look for reviews on that matter.

In my gut I felt like it would be hard to file a claim for many of these things if you had to.  If wedding gifts were lost or stolen, for example, I can only assume the company would want some proof of ownership or proof of how much it cost - which means hasseling your guests.  Similarly, some of the things covered are purely illegal.  If you have a contract with a vendor and they don't show, you can sue them at least for your deposit, if not for the full value of the contract.  If you've ever dealt with a regular insurance company, you'll know that there are lots of loopholes and exclusions that will make the company not pay out, and ultimately that's what I felt when I looked at the wedding insurance companies.
  • Our venue requires it, It is costing us $185 and i feel like its a waste of $185

<div>The venue required ones are usually liability insurance, to cover things like if a guest is injured in the venue.  </div><div>
</div><div>We talked about it, but like PP, we seriously doubted that we'd ever be able to collect if something did go wrong.  Our venue provided liability insurance that covered dram shop claims.  That was the only thing I was really concerned about.</div>
  • we are also required to have it, we got it for $175, but it did include our church, venue and the rehearsal dinner in the price and didnt change if we had more locations or less.
