Signing a Red Sox jersey instead of a picture or book

Im thinking of having a white Red Sox jersey with our last name on the back and our date for the number and have people sign that rather than a picture or book. Was wondering if anyone had anyother Red Sox themed ideas for this?? Im not sure how well the ink will last on the jersery over the years...even when I have it framed for hanging. Thoughts??

Thanks :))

  • i would say call a game shop who sells them and authenticate signitures  ask them
  • I think it's a cute idea.

But you might not want my Yankee loving husband signing your jersey.  I can only imagine what he would write.

Haha as a Red Sox fan, I love this idea! My Rays fan FI would never allow it Frown. I looked online and a lot people seem to recommend a deco paint marker that you can get at Michael's for jerseys.

Here is a thread on another forum that talks about the best type of pens to use on jerseys - http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=39250.

Hopefully no Yankees fans are attending the wedding. Tongue Out
  • pp- why not 1 jersey of each/
  • I LOVE this idea, especially as a Boston fan engaged to an equally big sports nut!!  My family is into collecting sports memorobilia, and if the right marker is used, the ink will last just fine as long as it's framed + hung properly.   I would consider going to your local sports memorobilia store and talking to the ppl there - they will be able to recommend autograph-grade markers + what not.

    Good luck!

  •    As a big red sox fan....I think it's an awesome idea...just make sure you frame it with a glass that blocks light...I had a baseball signed and it faded because I had it in a cheap ball holder and it was in my living room which got a lot of sunlight.

  • We did this with a Dolphin's jersey. It was a surprise for my husband, and he LOVES it.

We just used regular permanent craft markers in teal, black, and orange (dolphins colors) -- those are generally fade-resistant.  I would also recommend making a foam core or cardboard insert to put between the layers so the ink doesn't bleed to the front of the jersey. I had one, but the caterers forgot to set it out, so now the front of the jersey is ruined.  Not a huge deal, because it's framed to only see the back, but it stil irks me.....

  • sure I'd sign it--with my name and the yankees logo :)

but all rivalry kidding aside-i think it's a really cute idea!!
