fruit in centerpieces?

i love the ideas of using fruit inside my vases for centerpieces.. but sounds silly... can i use fresh or do i use fake? im not sure if fresh fruit will last submerged or fake or i dont have to submerge them.... see where im lost?
and better yet does anyone know a cheap place to find bulk fake fruit? i cant pay a dollar for each fake lemon or orange..

Fake fruit may be hard to keep submerged, its often styrofoam or something like that. What kind of fruit are you thinking about? That'll make a big difference in fake vs real.
