Lounge Area

Is anyone having a lounge area at their reception?

I'm thinking of doing this at my site...for close to free. The site coordinator said she could set something up by pulling furniture from other rooms that isn’t being used; mostly nice cushy chairs, side tables, and a love seat. It will be sectioned off by three solid walls and draping linens from the ceiling to the floor for the entrance. The only thing I would add is some decorations (flowers, pillows, and maybe a slipcover). I would want to put it off the one side of the dance floor where there is an alcove in the reception room.

I wanted knottie opinions of whether or not I should have the lounge off the side of the dance floor? Someone said it would defeat the purpose of the lounge if it’s close to the music and too noisy. I don’t think the music will be playing THAT loud, and a lot of the lounges I have seen in photos are open.

Yea? Nay? Feedback please and thank you.

Re: Lounge Area

  • I think they are a great idea too. When I first saw them, on TV shows, I thought they were kind of dumb but after I thought about it I actually think they can be good. Often you'll have family or friends that don't see each other often and this gives them a place to chat without being drowned out by the music.  It is also nice when people just want to get away from the music if it is too loud for them or not to their taste.
  • We did one at prom last year and the students loved it.  it was where they got refreshments as well as a more relaxing space to chat in than a table and hard chairs.
dont make ur password so easy. gbck2CA2 hahahaha
  • We're going to have one!  I think it'll be great for grandparents and other folks who aren't interested in the music and dancing.
  • It's an awesome idea. When I worked for The Palms South Beach a few years back, I had a bride hire a vendor that provided her with some very funky comfy  sofas that fit right in with the rest of the decor. It was a hit! After the dinner guests where dancing and lounging around and it created a very fun atmosphere! Go for it! And remember to have fun!! Good luck and best wishes!
  • Yes, I am doing an outdoor lounge area.  My reception venue has a private courtyard with twinkle lights.  I am having my coordinator put alot of outdoor candles and seating.  It will allow for folks to get fresh air, smoke if they do, and another place to talk with out the loud music from inside.
