AHR BUDGET

hello LadiesNot to be too nosy... ok i am lol but i would like to have a  AHR but not sure on what the budget should be. i don't want to spend a lot of money because thats one major reason for DW. any advice, tips, experiences would be great! thanks in advance.

Re: AHR BUDGET

  • Your AHR can be whatever you want it to be. You can have a backyard BBQ or a huge traditional reception. We can't tell you what your budget should be because that depends on, well, your budget. You don't have to have anything formal if you can't afford it. We're having a cocktail party at our house, and that's it. It will probably end up being a few hundred bucks for food & drinks. There are other girls on here who are putting the majority of their wedding budget into a big reception. It's really all about what you want and what you can afford. There are no rules.
  • We did my brothers in the yard by the pool/gazebo for under $1,000. No alcohol. Aproximately 50 people were there. I'm doing a bigger event because my Dad offered to pay and my budget is $6,000. I'm his only daughter and I've never been married before so he offered. Of course, that would not be happening without Dadio! hahaha.
  • We are having two AHR's and I don't really have a budget for either of them.  It's hard to guesstimate how much we're going to be spending because at one,  the catering is totally free, and at the other the location is in a friend's back yard.   Both are going to be casual, so nothing fancy. As Ali said, you can have it as big as you want or as intimate as you want.  It's up to you!  :)
  • Our budget for our AHR is outrageous... but that is because my Dad wants to have the big socialite party that he wanted the wedding to be. If we were doing the AHR ourselves... we would probably stick between a 10-15K budget. :-) HTH!
  • Thats what i am actually struggling with. My FMIL wanted an AHR for all her friends, but we still have to pay for it? I was scouting locations, and the cheapest i could find (using a venue/food/alcohol) was around 6500 for 80 people. It's definitely a prett penny. We will likely look into doing something in our condo party room instead (which is actually much better tha it sounds), as that is extremely high (considering we will be paying for the actual wedding ourselves also)...Hope it helps!
  • My budget is very modest, only like $1,500. I am not complaining though, I am lucky that my dad offered to pay $5,000 toward my wedding. I was not into having a traditional wedding at all, and he said I could spend the money anyway I wanted to get married. So long story shortened, we decided to go on a cruise, get married by ourselves. My family is supportive, my FI's family is bummed so we decided to set aside some of the money to have an AHR so everyone will get to celebrate with us. We are renting out a building at my dad's work and since he is an employee it only costs $150 for the entire day. I am having a beach themed AHR (even though it will be in January in Kentucky) and am planning to get decorations on clearance at the end of the summer here. I think we are probably just going to do the iPod for music. We are going to have finger foods and probably some alcohol, so it will be simple but still a lot of fun. Moral of the story....... if you don.t want to spend a lot, you don't have to! The point of it is to spend time with your family and friends, and that can be achieved modestly! Good luck!!
