Wedding dresses for beachy DWs

Do any of you feel compelled to "informalize" your wedding dress options because you're marrying on a beach or because you aren't having a huge wedding (if you aren't, of course!) I really tend to like more formal dresses... but I didn't know if it would seem kind of... I don't know... pompous or self-important? Or are you girls kind of in the "wear what you love" school of thought? I'd love to see what dresses you girls are going with or considering as well. :) Just wondering.

  • I am definitely wearing whatever I want. I'm not going to downsize anything I wear because it's on the beach. I love the Maggie Sottero gowns! They are beautiful. I will probably travel to Raleigh NC and find a Maggie dress there. Get what you want girl!
  • Totally agree!! If you want a big dress, get a big dress! You only get to do it once, and you'll look spectacular in no matter what :)
  • I wasn't thinking one way or the other, except that I didn't want to go too informal since we are getting married in a church.  But then I went shopping and I love my dress... it's not ball gown formal, but it's definately not informal.  It's a Maggie...Adelaide.  And has a train and all that jazz. So i'm going to be the bride I want to be regardless of where our wedding is.  Althought, we are going to the OBX in NC, and not the carribean, so it may be a little different for me.
  • I just went shopping this morning, and HATED everything in the "destination wedding" section.  One of my friends gave me great advice - you're only doing this once, so wear whatever you want!  All the dresses I loved were more formal and traditional, and that's what I'm going to go with.  We're doing an open house when we get back, so I figured I could wear a much less formal dress (in my case a short one!) to that.  Tried to do a PIP, but it hates me =(

  • Get what you want!  I started thinking I *needed* a destination dress and ended with a pretty formal dress.  Lighter, but still formal.  PIB.  You only do this once, you should feel amazing!!Hope this helps.-Jamie

  • I say, you're the bride, it's your day. Wear what you want, whatever you feel most comfortable and pretty in. Whether is a swim suit of a formal gown. Do what makes you feel good. I haven't picked my gown yet, but I think it's going to be somewhere inn the middle of casual and formal. Most likely, no train.
