Where are you getting married?

Hello ladies, I'm new on this board, I've been engaged for a little less than a month now & am in the early stages in planning a DW. I was wondering how many of you have done it - did you invite a huge group to the DW, or a small group and have some sort of reception when you got home?FI & I are looking at Jamaica with a very small group, & then a casual get-together with our family who couldn't make it when we get home. I can imagine with the economy the way it is, many people wouldn't have the money to travel, are you getting a big turnout if you did invite a big group? And just out of curiosity, cause I look to oogle at all the pretty places, where are you getting married/at which resort? Are you planning a lot there or are you doing an all inclusive that plans it for you?TIA!

Re: Where are you getting married?

  • Hi, congrats and welcome to the Board!  We chose to get married in port on a cruise.  We sent out STD's to everyone, but realistically were only expecting a handful to cruise with us.  We're also planning two AHR's upon our return..... one in FI's home state and one here in California where we live now.We have more people joining us on our cruise than we ever anticipated!  People we didn't think would be able to come or would even consider it have booked, so we're excited about that!  So, if there's one thing I can share with you, it's don't count out anyone!  :)We're having our ceremony on Catalina Island.HTH!  :)
  • Hi and Welcome to the board! To answer your questions...Where are you getting married/at which resort?: We are not getting married at a resort. We are taking a Mediterranean Cruise and are getting married ashore on the French Riviera Did you invite a huge group to the DW, or a small group and have some sort of reception when you got home?: We are having a very small group (my parents, 2 siblings with their sporses and my nieces and nephew). And as of now we were not planning on having an At Home Reception (AHR), but we might have one for my FI's family. Are you getting a big turnout if you did invite a big group?: Most of the people we invited are coming (exept FI's parents...long story there), but then again, we didn't invite anyone other than imediate family. Are you planning a lot there or are you doing an all inclusive that plans it for you?: We are planning everything from here with a local Wedding Coordinator in France. I told her an idea of what I wanted, picked out a package and a location and she is pretty much doing everything for me.Happy Planning!
  • Hi!! Congrats on your engagement & welcome to the DW board!!to answer all of your questions...We are getting married on the Renaissance Private Island in Aruba, but lodging at the Costa Linda Beach Resort. We invited about 60 people to our wedding and we are expecting 30 to come.We are also have an "at home reception" about 2 months after our DW. It's going to be pretty low key though. We are only doing apps & cocktails. Having it at a restaurant banquet hall, getting a DJ for dancing, and that's about it. I'm wearing my dress again, but there won't be any cake cutting, bouquet throwing, or any of the typical traditional wedding stuff. basically just having a party that's a little more formal! As far as the travel with the economy, I tried to do lots of research for my guests to keep the costs down. I got a group discount from American Airlines, and I also rented timeshare units from private owners and split the cost between guests. Each guest paid $250 for their accommodations for the week. There are pics in my bio of our wedding location that you can scope out!!Enjoy!! & Happy Planning! :o)
  • I was married 2 weeks ago today at Sandals Grande Antigua.  We have 50 guests (it was the largest wedding the resort ever had :) come down to the island.  My parents are throwing us an at home reception as their wedding present to us and there will be about 150 people there. I worked with a travel agent here who took care of the accomodations and flights for our guests.  I also had a Wedding Coordinator from Sandals who arranged everything for the wedding.  I had an additional team of on-site WCs that took care of everything once we got there and on the day of the wedding.  They were fabulous!!
  • Hi and welcome!! We're getting married in Kailua, Hawaii. We're not staying at a resort (we're renting houses) and the ceremony will be very simple. We're planning on having around 30 people there. There are lots of different ways to do a DW and whatever you choose it will be unique b/c you can add lots of personal touches. GL!
  • Hello & welcome! We're marrying at Sandals Negril (honeymooning at Sandals Ocho Rios).  We invited 40 couples (though we really didn't want it that big), and have 14 couples actually attending.  Some are staying at Sandals, some are staying at other resorts that fit their budget better (they'll have to pay to get onto the resort on the day of the ceremony). We're having a AHR (at home reception) the weekend after we return home.  It will be semi-formal - we'll be in our bridal attire and our ceremony video will play prior to being announced. Our TA (travel agent) pretty much handled things for most guests and the wedding details will be arranged with the WC (wedding coordinator) upon on arrival at Sandals.  I'm going with the basic wedding package...not too many frills.GL with your planning!!!
  • Hi and Welcome!  You'll love these girls!  Us DW knotties/nesties/bumpies are the best.DH and I were married at Dreams Resort and Spa in Tulum, Mexico. We invited 300+ people (because I come from a HUGE family and DH is ridiculously Greek) with the hopes of only 30-50 attendants and sure enough we wound up with 42 including us =)We went the all-inclusive route because I figured that everyone who was going was not going to want to spend once they got there.  The reality was that it was our guests vacation too and we didn't want to take away from their vacation time.  It worked out perfectly because everyone was at liberty to do as much or as little as they wanted (outside the resort).  No schedules or crazy plans to stick to!HTH! and Happy Planning!

  • We are doing JAMAICA! The Sandals Grande in Ocho Rios (all inclusive) and we are only having 22 people. That's including me and my FI. We are having a AHR of about 100-125 people when we get home. Only 4 people that we invited are not coming. I didn't want a big group. For me that was one of the reasons I decided on a dw to begin with. It has been so easy to plan! I've had very little stress, and what I need help with I get it from this board!!! If you have any Jamaica questions please feel free to email me. jenniferosa at hotmail dot com.
  • Thanks so much for the info! I'm so excited to be on the beach, drink in hand, and married!
  • Hi and welcome! We're getting married in Key West. We're not staying at a resort. I have a wedding coordinator who is handling the ceremony and then our reception will be on a catamaran. We invited 75 people, and expect about 30 people to join us (and hopefully no more than that!!) We will be having some kind of AHR when we get back, but those plans have no been finalized. It will probably be similar to the other Alison's...at a restaurant but pretty informal. Have fun planning. Another good place to look is dwbridesbio.com for location ideas.
