AHR - $$$$$$$!!!!!!

For whoever is having an AHR - how much are you budgeting for this? I cannot seem to find anywhere to have this for less than $5000 for food and drink alone for 100 people... Any advice/ideas? Thanks!

Re: AHR - $$$$$$$!!!!!!

  • Mine's going to be around $4000.  No photographer and bull roast type food at the local Elk's Lodge.  Super casual.  More like a big party than a "reception".
  • I'm probably not much help, but we decided not to do a full reception for $$$ reasons. We are having a casual party in a room at an irish pub in our town.  We're not doing dinner - just munchies like chips and salsa and we're having a sheet cake.  We're also doing beer and wine, and that's it. We actually ended up preferring this because we're already have a reception once (in Mexico) and weren't interested in having a second.

  • when are you getting married? we are doing a BBQ/ block party style reception at home in our backyard(s). some food will be catered, others will be made... and we're going to get kegs of beer. super casual and super laid back but this fits both of us better than anything formal.
  • I was in the same boat as you! Anywhere decent in Toronto would've run us around $8000... on top of all our other wedding expenses. Unfortunately, we don't really have a backyard to use for our wedding (we might use my brother's but it's a little on the small side). At this point, i don't think we will be having anything. Honestly i am going to make it really nice in DR, so i don't feel the need to have one here. Besides, i have one person say to me that if we're doing it here, than he's not coming to Dominican. I have a feeling a lot of people would feel this way. So at this point, we are opting out of one. But we may change our minds!
  • We had the same problem - I tried to book a nice downtown restaurant, but it was waaaay expensive, and much more work than I wanted. We're doing a heavy hoers d'eorves & drinks at my parents house, kind of an open house thing. No cake, but getting a cheap photographer to take some nice pics of family that couldn't travel with us. We're both much more excited about this, very laid back, we're going to do the same as a PP - half catered, half homemade stuff. It's much more "us" than a big fancy party. Then there's more budget money to spend on a really fun trip/DW!
  • Ours is going to cost about 1K.  We are having a reception/celebration in a local elk's lodge as well.  However, we are making all of the food and centerpeices.  One of my Aunt's makes wedding cakes so she is making one for our AHR.  Another one of my Aunt's does photograpy so she will be taking pictures at the AHR (and the DW too!).  The only thing we need is a DJ and possibly some flowers if I choose to get them.  I am finding the AHR is slightly stressful to plan though!

  • I'm budgeting $1000 to $1500. I kind of got lucky in that my dads work rents out their union building for $150 for 24 hours. It has a dance floor, kitchen and its pretty nice. I'm having a beach themed reception and have been collecting clearance summer items as I find them near the end of the season. Probably iPod it for music. I have a friend of my brother who is going to do a couple hours of photography cheap. We are going to get a cake and finger foods... and we havent decided on alcohol. I just want to have fun and keep it simple.
