Suggestions for Informal Dress...

I went dress shopping for the first time last night, first I went to one of the Making Memories sales and then I went to a David's. I couldn't really find many things I liked. I had in mind a flowy, chiffon like dress that didn't have a train.... and I did try on a few but I didn't really like the way they looked. (Strapless looks like a nightgown on me! Halter is much better.) It seemed that most of the dresses had a train, and I really wanted some more informal or even a short dress. I saw that David's has some online, but I am a little wary of ordering something I haven't tried on. Has anyone ordered from David's online? Do you have any other suggestions for where I could look for a dress? I was thinking even a department store, but I didn't know if they would be selling white this time of year. TIA!

 • Have you looked at J.Crew's wedding section? And a lot of them look perfect for a dw on a beach or something equally outdoorsy. • Try checking out bridesmaids dresses, nordstroms, ann taylor, jcrew. My friend that just got married ordered a bridesmaid dress (in white).  GL.
 • I got my dress from David's, but from the store, not online.  However, the sales lady told me that the online store is a little different than the brick & mortar stores and that the sizing is slightly different.  She suggested that if I ordered something from the online store to really pay attention to the sizing charts. What about trying on a few at David's (even if it has a train) to get an idea about cut & sizing, then go online to order?  I think the return policy was a little more lenient than if you bought from the store which might give you some leeway.
 • I would suggest bridesmaid dresses also. Most of them are less formal than wedding gowns and perfect for beach weddings. My dress is actually a floor-length bridesmaid dress in ivory!

 • I got mine from a Jessica McClintock boutique. Here's the website http://www.jessicamcclintock.com you can find a couple dresses you like then see if there's a store near you. When I found a dress I liked I called the store to see if they had it and then went to try it on. Try looking in their evening gown section then click search by size a color. If you put in white it will give you all the dresses that come in that color. HTH!
