destinationweddings.com

Has anyone used Destinationweddings.com to arrange their wedding and travel?  It sounds almost to good to be true, a full consultant and discounted rates for only a $50 deposit credited towards your travel expenses. (?)There are quite a few testimonials with pictures and their accredited by the BBB, but I would like to hear from brides that are not directly shown on their webiste.Thank you

Re: destinationweddings.com

  • I can't help you with personal reference because I didn't use them, but I do know many girls on here have used them. I've seen mainly positive reviews. They definitely aren't a scam, if that's what you're wondering.
  • Thanks for the reply.  I am not too worried that they are a scam, just if they are as good as they claim to be.  If it would be worth putting the $50 down (which you have to do for them to get started).
  • I'm currently using destinationweddings.com and so is a friend of mine, so far they've been quite helpful (we are at the very begining stages of the wedding).  Our TA has been able to send us a lot of info about venues, etc. so far.  I also was a bit skeptical, but so far it's been a good experience.
  • I had an awful experience with destinationweddings.com.  They're definitely not a scam, but my TA SUCKED big time.  Her name was Marcia Perkins.  We're still battling for money she screwed up with 6 months later. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have used DW.com because there really is no benefit (what they tell you about their ability to make sure guests don't get bumped at busy times is bullsh!t - all you need is your confirmation and you're in).  Their prices were also much more expensive and everyone who booked our wedding on their own spent an average of $500 less (per couple).  Another sucky thing was that they told some of my guests that our resort was all booked and we had to have people book at a close-by resort.  PS - other guests of ours who DID NOT book through DW.com had no problem getting a room at Dreams whatsoever.  And upon arrival, there was still room at the resort, so wtf?HTH!

  • I am currently using DW.com and am very satisfied.  My TA is Valerie and she is very responsive, friendly and completely on it.  She is honest and candid about the properties they deal with because she pretty mus has stayed at all of them within the past 2 years.  She was very patient with me (we booked Mexico a while ago and then I wanted to change countries when all kookiness started there) and she researched everywhere for me only for me to decide to keep the wedding in Mexico. Its not a scam, but I will tell you to keep an eye on specials you see in the paper and at other places because DW.com can match a lot of the deals that are out there.  DW.com does tend to run a little bit on the more expensive side (because they deal with tour companies), but like I said - if you see a deal in the paper they can usually match it.  Long story short, DW.com gave me a little more personal service than say, a Liberty Travel (who I did not like dealing with), but if you don't need a little hand-holding (like me), you don't need to part with the $50.00.
  • it is just such a crap shoot. I contacted them and didn't like the TA I got, then did some research, took some other advice and when I was sitting here, I saw a wedding on the knot TV and it was at Beaches. I found out that the wedding was of the TA I had contacted, Jennifer at VIP Vacations. She has been a total angel to work with and best of all...no $50 fee, they lower my price if the rate comes down AND she knows all the stress cause she did it herself! www.travelbyvip.com HIGHLY recommend her!
  • Oh, and just to add: they aren't even the real TA.  After you tell them what you want, THEY then deal with a TA... They're a complete middle man.

  • I have had nothing but a good experience so far.  My TA is great-and she will match any price if we find a lower one..so I guess it all depends on who you get-but I have had a good experience.  I am so sorry to hear not everyone did!!

  • Thanks everyone for your feedback.  It sounds like it all depends on the TA you recieve.  I may just go for it but I will do a little more research too.  Since we will be paying for a large number of the guests, maybe I can get a good deal directly through one of the Dreams or Beaches resorts.  I'm just not a very organized person and really have no idea where to even start, so DW.com sounded like a perfect solution and it may be worth the $50 to at least finally get me going on this whole stressful wedding planning business :)I'll just cross my fingers that I will get a great TA! Thanks again.
