Air-Travel

First off please don't laugh because I can get eccentric at times.  Anyway, I get so paranoid when I travel on planes, but not for the reason you may thing.  I almost ALWAYS get sick when I travel on airplanes.  I'm trying to prepare my body for the trip by loading up on vitamins (C, Ecenecia, Zinc).  However, the more I think about it I'm actually considering wearing a face mask on the plane to try to avoid any extra germs from being in a confined area.Am I nuts for doing this? The last thing I want is to get sick on for the wedding or on our way back from the wedding!

Re: Air-Travel

  • You are nuts! Mask or no mask...with the mask you will be extra nutty :-)And that is all in your head...I travel a lot (you know it) and I never ever get sick...just stay away from the magazines on the pockets (you know...people pick thir noses and then touch those...gross)...other than that you will be fine not wearing a mask.If you do, people might freak out thinking you are actually sick and who knows flight attendants might not like you for speading panic among the passengers and they might not be nice to you when you ask them to hang your wedding dress in the coat closet.
  • Tracy! This post just oddly excited me because I can help you! Or at least try... I have read and heard several times that people get sick when they fly because the inside of your nostrils gets dry & cracks when you fly, so then the germies and viruses can get into your blood stream. If you keep your nostrils hydrated (haha) by using just plain old lotion or even a little Vaseline rubbed up in there, that could seriously & dramatically help. Pumping up the vitamins and immunity boosters certainly can't hurt. I assume you will do this, but I will say it anyway - keep taking them for the days after you fly leading up to the big day. And the usual, wash your hands before eating & touching your face.
  • Have you ever tried taking Airborne? I know some people rave about it, but I have never used it myself.
  • I can totally relate to you and ALWAYS used to get sick from planes.  However, a co-worker of mine gave me some helpful hints that have REALLY seemed to work for me (and I fly all the time).1. Drink lots of water the day before and during the flight.  Stay away from caffeine - no starbucks at the airport!  2. Take a clairton or other allergy tablet before boarding the plane.3. Turn on the air vent above you but make sure it's not pointing directly toward you. (i used to think these are what caused me getting sick, but it's actually the opposite, you need the air circulating around you).4. Bring a nose saline spray with you, if during the flight your nose gets really dry, use the saline (sounds gross, but it works).  Dry noses are a breading ground for bacteria.5. HAND SANITIZE before eating/drinking on a plane and wash hands with warm water/soap immediately after getting off the plane (this is just the OCD in me).GL!
  • Thanks ladies! I still may keep a mask in my purse just in case, but I will try everything else mentioned as well :-)

  • IMHO I dont think your crazy. I too am a bit OCD when it comes to planes and flying... Okay, actually all the time. *But I have not been sick in over 3 years* If wearing the mask makes you feel more comfortable go for it! If you end up next to a person coughing with a runny nose I bet you will be glad you did. The best advice I have is touch nothing, especially your face, must keeps hands away from face and mouth! When you turn the air vent on touch it with a tissue. I also take clorox wipes to go and wipe down the lap tray and arm rests. You can also take them into bathrooms and use them to open the doors and keep the water flowing so you dont have to touch the fixtures. With it being flu season I dont think you can do do much!
  • Believe it or not, I see quite a few people who wear face masks when they travel, however be prepared for the attention/looks you will be getting from other travelers.  Some people might automatically assume YOU are the ones with the germs! But you should do what is good for your health and piece of mind!
  • I'm of the mindset that if you're going to look a little weird, you may as well go all the way.  So if you go with the mask, PLEASE make it sequined and sparkly like Michael Jackson did and write "Bride" across the front in blue flatback rhinestones.  lolHonestly, though, I've seen plenty of people who wear those on airplanes and it didn't seem to phase anyone.  Like pp's said, take care of yourself, get your vitamins in a few days ahead of time, and wash your hands often.  You'll be just fine.  *HUG*
  • Rhinestone face mask.. Bah haha I love it and see a DIY project in my future.
  • I was prepping a post in my mind and then I read sequined face mask and lost it all...LOL..i think i may have peeped a tiny bit!  hahahaha.  Maybe wear a face mask that has Bride to Be on it..LOL.  Maybe Lisa can make a go of those :).  I'm sure you are not the only one!
  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! A bejeweled mask.  I'm so making them this weekend.  Mark my word!
