St. Lucia and Marriage License

Hey all. This may be a silly question- but my town clerk said she "has never heard of someone getting married in St. Lucia, where is it?" So, Im turning to TK. I live in New York State. Anyone have experience with coming back with a license from St. Lucia and what do do with it? Do I just start calling DMV, Social Security, etc to change my name and hope they accept the license from St. Lucia? If not, I guess I'll have to pay for one in New York State? Sorry if this is silly.

Re: St. Lucia and Marriage License

  • I don't have previous experience, but I'm getting married in St.Lucia, and that is what I understood to be true as far as the license being valid in the US. St.Lucia is in the Caribbean. The marraige license is from St.Lucia legal in the United States. Basically you take the license from St.Lucia and proceed with all your names changes as you normally would with a license from your home state.
  • I do know from previous brides that before you change anything, you must first change your number with the Social Security Office. HTH!

  • I was recently married in Antigua (which is probably even less know than St. Lucia :) and I had no problems with my marriage license.  I went the first day back to the DMV with my drivers license and my marriage license and they gave me a new one.  I then went to SS office with both the old and new licenses and my marriage license and I had a new SS card in the mail within 2 weeks. BTW: I got engaged in St. Lucia and the island is beautiful!
  • Cant wait! So glad you loved St. Lucia! Thanks for the help... I'll still call around a bit, but I've stopped stressing about it!
