Opinions on Wine, Pretty Please

I'm trying to keep the drinks for our AHR relatively simple.  We were thinking we would do beer, wine, and a margarita/pina colada drink machine.  I need help selecting the kinds of wine I should have, though.  Which wine(s) do I need to have?

  • The poll only lets you pick one option, but I've always heard to offer one red and one white.  That's a great idea to have the frozen drinks too!
  • I think it kind of depends on what you are eating and the brands that you select. Cab is my go to when I am unsure of what people will have a party and I want to bring something. At my supermarket they have pictures on the tag that say what type of food the wine will go with like steak, pizza, fruits, pasta etc. You might try selecting with that in mind. Either of the pinots would be a good safe option as well.

  • definitely have one red & one white...pinot noir is a great smooth easy to drink red that goes with all food types and I would say do a pinot grigio for the white or an unoaked chardonnay.

  • I would go with one Sweet and one dry. I will only drink sweet but I know people that will only drink dry. I def think you should try to pair it up with the food your having too. I'm sure someone in the liquor store can help you with that if your unsure.

  • I would agree with one white and one red. The pinot grigio and the cab.

  • The poll isn't working for me. You should have a red and a white. I'd go with pinot noir and riesling.
  • I agree with a red & a white.  My preference is the same as Kimmy -- a Pinot Noir and a Riesling.  Some of it can depend on what you're serving for the meal, but both of those are very drinkable on their own (eg, mingling) or paired with a wide range of foods.

Cabs/Malbecs can be a bit heavy to some for just drinking (generally best paired with a red meat), and I definitely wouldn't go much sweeter than Riesling (moscato, gewurztraminer, etc).  Pinot Grigio is another 'easy drinker'.
