recommend things to do in Puntaa Cana?

Hi ladies! For anyone who has been to puntaacana, can anyone recommend which guides/tour things-to-do you or your guests ended up using? I'm thinking of snorkling, parasailing, scuba diving, waverunner, etc for our guests who wants to do more than stay at the Melia resort. Thanks in advance!!!

Re: recommend things to do in Puntaa Cana?

  • We were planning on doing an excursion, but then ran out of time.  We heard a lot of people rave about the dune buggies (you get really dirty on them), but it's a day long tour.  There was also this speed boat one that looked cool (you drive your own speed boat to a private island and snorkel and snuba, kinda of a mix between snorkeling and scuba but you don't have to get certified).  All of the tours we heard about were through VIP Vacations since that's who our travel agency uses there.  There's also a day long tour through the villages that I've heard is very humbling (and slightly sad to see the way most people live there).  Some guests might be interested to see their culture though!  Good luck!  Wish I could help more....
  • I've heard a lot about Manati Park. You can swim with dolphins! A friend of mine went there last year when she was in PC and loved swimming with the dolphins. It's also a nature park.  (www.manatipark.com/eng/index.htm)

  • Yes, Manati park was another one we were going to do, but didn't think the $125 per person was worth the 30min swim with the dolphins...
  • Manatí Park is really good, but you can only go and watch the show, and it will be cheaper. There are also other things, great club on a indigenous cave -will give you the name shortly- , you can go to the biggest town near by, Higuey (30 min. drive) and see the Basilica de la Altagracia, a beautiful and huge cathedral built in honor of the "Higher Grace Virgin", the mother of all Dominicans.

Also, 1 and a half away is Altos de Chavon, a gorgeous mini city built in stone, over looking the Chavón river. A great place for pictures (like 70% of Dominican brides take their wedding pics there). It also houses an amphitheater that welcomes the greatest artist that have come to DR, and a design school affiliated to Parsons.

Let me think of other things and I'll let you know.
