For a DW, when do you send out invites and save-the-dates?

For a DW, when do you send out invites?  Surely you need to send them out earlier then typical/local weddings.
How about Save-the-dates?  I'm thinking we'll send out std's this month since our wedding is in a year.

We are sending them out earlier than we would a traditional wedding, so people can save/plan!

We're sending out our STD's this month (so 1 year in advance). Our invites will go out 5 or 6 months before the wedding. Hope that helps

I was so busy the last few weeks that we just sent out our save the dates today!  I felt like it was a little late but thats ok.  They still have enough time to save/plan.

We are sending our STD a year ahead of time. They are going out this week if FI asks his one Groomsmen (different issue)... the invitations are probably going to go out in 5 or 6 months like they said above.

I sent our STD's out about 9 months before the wedding so people could have a heads up with planning flights and hotel accommodations.  I plan on sending the invitations about 2 months before. 

There is so much info out there as to when to send them, it was a little overwhelming!  I think it depends on how big the wedding, where it is and ultimately what you feel comfortable with for time frames.

Send out STDs as soon as you have a firm date and location. We sent ours out about a year in advance. Our invites went out about 3 months in advance.

We sent out our STDs as soon as we signed the contract with the venue and had a date.  Coincidentally this was just after our 1-year mark so most ppl got theirs about 11 months in advance. 

I am planning on sending out the invites about 4 months in advance.  Normally I'd do 3 months but that's smack dab in the middle of Thanksgiving & Xmas so I would like to send them out before the holiday madness.
