We finally decided! It's a vineyard elopement!!

After about the worst week of indecisiveness ever I think we've planned a wedding! The problem was that we started without a budget or a vision. We considered Ohio, every location in the Caribbean and Mexico, DC, Baltimore, Virginia and Napa. And when none of those looked good we started down the list again. Then we decided we were way over budget and started again. Then decided we wanted something fancy, and started again. Then we considered inviting family and started again. You'd think an elopement would be easy, but it really options up so many choices it's overwhelming!

So, due to budget, we've gone from an 8 night in the Caribbean to a 2 night in VA wine country. It's a little disappointing, but we just went to Barbados last year and we need to save more than we need to go to the beach again. So we've chosen a lovely inn and will say our vows in their cellar room, followed by a private dinner and wine. We'll do photos at a nearby winery before hand, and a limo wine tour the next day. A few nice splurges (and we love wine!), but cost effective by minimizing our nights and staying nearby. Oh, and another reason this is a great choice - we get to do it on our anniversary date - a Sunday!

I already have a florist, and have heard back from some reasonably priced photographers. Next up - dress shopping! 88 days!

  • yeah!!  picking the destination is always the hardest part.  But now that's done it's time for the fun stuff!  And a vineyard wedding is going to be beautiful.  Congrats!!
  • That's so awesome! Congratulations!

I live in Baltimore too and I'm glad you're doing it elsewhere, this is one of the worst places in the world.
  • That is such a huge decision!  Congrats on deciding!  I love the idea and can't wait to see it all come together!

  • Congrats! It sounds like something romantic out of an old  novel or a romance movie :) Picking the location is the first big battle!
  • Thank you all for your congrats! I am finally excited over it, but not FI says he's nervous. I guess he now has a vision in his head. Oh, and another piece of excitement - he's agreed to write his vows!!! He was dead set on just doing the "In sickness and in health ones" but now he's been talking about it all morning.

It's not a secret, everyone knows we're planning an elopement during that timeframe. But we haven't yet told them it will be stateside. I'm actually a little worried now, we were using the Caribbean as an excuse to be just the two of us, but now I'm thinking the family will want to come and we should just invite them. It would only be a small dinner reception - about 8 people instead of 2.
