11beck

I noticed on the Friday post that you said you were making your own barefoot sandals. Did you work off of a tutorial for this, and would you mind sharing. I am looking to make some and hoping that it will be cheaper than buying. The nicer ones on Etsy are a bit pricey.

Thanks in advance!

  • I actually just looked at pictures and tried it.  I started using elastic string but the beads were too heavy.  So I ended up going back to get the clear wire (like fishing line).  With that I had to use crimping beads and a closure.  I bought some clear plain beads then two different accent beads.  One is like a teal tear drop and then a barrel with a design.  I just kind of played around and made a pattern I liked.  I can post a picture of my (mostly) finished one once I get home.  I think that it was cheaper than most of the ones I liked online, plus I have extra beads so I was thinking about making anklets for my mother, FMIL, and FSIL. But we'll see how much time I have, haha!

  • I would really love to see a pic! How did you go about measuring it compared to your shoe size? I was looking at stuff in the store, and thought about the elastic string, so glad to hear it's a no go. Random question, but does it feel awkward on the bottom where it loops around your toe?

  • Ok I took some pictures.  For the size I just guessed, lol.  I cut a peice that was really long and then once I put the closures on I cut the extra off.  I wear toe rings usually during the summer so it doesn't bother me.  I used super small beads for the toe part though just so it wouldn't be too uncomfortable.

  • Those look soooo great! How did you do the circles...I was thinking 2 strings but not sure how that would work? Sorry if I am bugging you with a million questions!

  • Oh no your fine!  After you do a few regular beads on both sides, you string both end through whatever beads you want to be the 'middle' beads (my silver ones).  It's kind of like lacing a shoe. I pulled the ends through the beads and then kept beading on both sides. Then treaded through a middle bead again.  I'm not sure if that makes sense.  If not I can take pictures while I do the other foot, lol.  If you don't want such big circles use smaller middle beads.  I've seen pictures both ways and like either.  Oh, I used one string and made a middle loop for the toe part, then used a crimp bead to keep that shape.
