Wow....I hate work!

You all know what my supervisor did to me about my Christmas vacation, she denied me. I have taken off the week between Christmas and NY every year for the past 11 years. I am also a senior employee. Everyone else, besides my supervisor, has been here less than me. WELL, I told my friend at work how I was denied and she couldn't believe my supervisor did that to me and she said...."I'm gonna req it off now too just to see". Well she was approved for two days. WTF??? Seriously. I can't have the time off but someone else can. Even if I couldn't have the whole week, I'll take two days instead. I am so pissed at my friend for doing that too me and as for my supervisor, well you all know.

  • Do you have an HR person? It's BS to me, and there's no reason for you to be denied for it if others are getting approved after you. I'd speak to the HR person, see if there's anything they can do to help if you really want the time off.
  • So did your friend request it off as a test or is she really taking the time?  If she is really going to take the time, that is pretty messed up.

Either way what your supervisor is doing is crap.  Does the company have a policy about time off and seniority?  I would check that.

  • Do you already have off for some other time this year?  Like if you've already requested bunch of days off or something and then wanted that week too, then maybe that's why your supervisor didn't approve you?

Only saying it because that's the way it works at my job.  If that's the case, your friend may have been approved because she hadn't requested off as many days during the year.

Either way, I'd definitely talk to HR or your supervisor to see what's going on & why you weren't approved.  Not cool!

She said she took it off as a test and will give me the day if I talk to my supervisor about it and she tells me I can't have it cause she gave it to the other girl, however she took off the Friday before Christmas as well so I think she's gonna take the day. I'm not sure about the policy because we were bought out in Jan and we still have no new policy book. Either way, I have seniority and I requested the time off first. My supervisor denied my week but gave her the day aft Christmas off. She should've told me I couldn't have the week but can have the day aft off. I'd take anything rather than nothing. My supervisor isnt here today so I sent her an email saying that! HR is prob gonna tell me I have to work it out w my supervisor.

  • Wow Jenn that doesn't sound fair at all!  I would definitely talk to HR or confront your supervisor (in a politically correct type of way lol).

I would be pissed too.. and If your friend is keeping the days off that would be messed up!

I have 26 vacation days available and req 10 for my wedding the other girls has 15 days vacation and req 11 already. I think the reason is because I req the whole week and she only req 2 days. If I couldnt have the whole week, 2 days would've been fine with me but she didn't say that. She just said I need all staff here for month end but would possibly look into it for me. I told her we were going away to visit FIs family. I'm gonna talk to my supervisor tomorrow when she comes in, without the ice scraper! If my friend does take the day I will be pissed. I'm actually pissed that she even did it knowing I was trying to get the days approved. When I came to work and say her name "off" on the calendar I sent her a txt telling her she was approved after I was denied and she said "UT OH".
