Hair and Makeup...?

I was thinking originally of uses the hair and makeup services available at the salon at our resort (iberostar in Jamaica), but I'm seeing all these posts about reserving outside vendors for those services? Are all of you using alternate options beside what they provide you? Am i.vtazy to use the resort? How do you even know who.does food work when there's no trial involved? Sorry I'm confused. Lol

  • I'm doing my own makeup and not hiring anyone lol the prices at my location were enough to convince me to learn how :P

I'm taking a risk and going to the salon in my resort. I could have someone come to my room but she charged a $30 travel fee....but she uses airbrush, which I really wanted. I went back and forth with the decision forever! I ultimately decided on the salon because I already made my appt there and talked to them 20 million times via email so I felt bad about thinking of canceling.

  • I am doing my own makeup because I am good with that stuff. Having it done at the MAC counter before I go, and just replicating.

Hair I will have done at the salon at the resort. I suck at doing hair. I just want a messy updo with a flower stuck in it. If they screw it up, I'll throw it in a pony tail and call it a day.
  • My cousin and aunt are doing my hair & makeup. I was lucky enough to have family members in the business =) Have you seen pictures of their work ? Maybe have a Plan B in mind just in case you do not like it.

  • I'm struggling with this myself.  I have read various reviews about the "artists" at the resort and have heard they do great hair but are not so great with the makeup.  That scares me!  I have looked at other possiblities and come up with nothing :(

I have leaning towards just going to MAC and having them teach me to do the look I want and replicate it.  I'm just nervous about and I really wanted to be "pampered" lol

  • See if the resort has a facebook page where you can talk to past brides, and even upcoming brides (because they may be past brides by the time you get married). This way you can talk to them about their experiences, and see any photos that are posted.

  • I am considering doing my own make-up, although having an airbrush service would be amazing... Once it gets closer, I'm going to talk to the resort to see who/what they recommend.

I am also toying with the idea of bringing my hairdresser. She has been doing my hair for the past 9 years (despite living in MN, FL and NY -- I see her everytime I'm back in WI) and is actually a close family friend as she does everyone's hair in my family. I am going to ask her for her thoughts when I go see her at the end of March. We would pay for her travel and hotel.

  • I'm hiring outside ppl, but where I am staying doesn't have a salon. I would just go to or hire based on if they offered what I wanted or not.
