XP: Cake. How far in advance?

I am wondering how soon I should bother my bakery about cakes? There is only one suggested by the venue. I know that when I was trying to nail down other logistics people were hard to respond because "she's not here, and her wedding is next year" but when do I do this?

If you are wanting a specific bakery I wouldn't hold off on getting that process started!! Wouldn't want her to book up and you not be able to use that bakery

I would book ASAP.  When we finally got around to booking our cake vendor, she had already taken another deposit and now we're searching for someone else without being able to taste anything or see it ahead of time.  I like my original cake much more now that I can't have it.

I booked my cake vedor the same day I booked my venue. Both over a year ago and my wedding is in July.

Ok. I was confused because I thought I'd wait until maybe 2 months out but I don't know if it's just worth it to book ASAP.

Do not wait until two months out. Your cake vendor will most likely no longer be available at that point.

I haven't confirmed mine yet.. I am doing that when I go down there in February. If you pick a small bakery or someone doing it themselves out of their house they will book up fast. If you go with a larger bakery than you have a bit more time.. just my two cents. All the bakeries I'm looking at do more than one wedding a weekend, but they are well established larger bakeries.
