Food Food and more Food. And Drinks.

Why is it that EVERY weekend my FI & I have parties to attend that have a bunch of awesome food & alcohol. I really need to lose this 20 pounds but it seems SO impossible. We are very social people and love going out with friends. But every time I go I feel like it is impossible to stick to my diet. I am so good during the week because we make our own lunches and dinners. But the weekends not so much. I would hate to turn down outings...but my willpower is just not up for it !

Any advice ???????????

  • I understand your frustration. Best advise I have is to try to make a deal with yourself before going that lets you have a little cheat, but maybe you agree you only get one cheat that night, so everything else has to follow your diet. That's what I did last night because I went out with my girls to our favourite little diner/coffee shop. I ended up having a fresh fruit smoothie because I could choose what went into it and make it all healthy and then let myself have one of my favourite cookies... although the cheesecake was calling my name lol
  • The diet I've been doing comes with counseling, and in the counseling I've learned that it's ok to eat other foods, just not to overindulge in them.  So when I know I've got something coming up, I stick to my diet, and drink a shake before I go so I'm not "hungry" and I'll snack less.  In that, I've also learned to not stuff myself, and to order foods that are less processed and better for me.

  • I know what you mean... this is my downfall too! I am learning that portion control is key. I'm also trying to focus on having one "cheat" day where I can eat whatever I want for one meal. I think this will help. We go out a lot on the weekends which can make it impossible to eat right.

  • Try drinking cite sprite w flavored vodka....low calories. Or for beer, Bud select 55 is only 55 cal or Mich Ultra 95 cal. As far as food, what if you eat before you go?

  • We had the same issue last summer.  I just followed our meals all the time, and the occasions we had nights out, ate small healthy portions, and shared dessert.  I didn't mind either filling up on veggies and dip or fruits, or some appies that I knew were healthier - chicken on a  stick.  We still dropped every week, even with the occasional indulgences.  Everything in moderation

  • Ok so my post disappeared! I suggested eating before you go so you can snack less or bring a heathy dish to the parties to snack on that! Also try drinking diet sprite w vodka for a less calorie drink or if you like beer instead bring your own. Bud select 55 is 55 calories and Mich Ultra is 95.

  • Yea see that is my problem. I think I go hungry because I know I am going to be miss piggy. And my alcohol problem is that I like good beer...the micro brews that have a million calories. And wine has 3-4 WW points. AHHHH. I sometimes will do vodka soda + lime...I think that is 3 points.

    Wish me luck this weekend because I have a birthday dinner AND bbq.

  • I love diet sprite and blueberry, grape, or green apple vodka. Yum. Also diet Pepsi and cherry vodka is so good too!

  • Here are my little tricks!

    -Vodka and water... dump a crystal light packet in there!  Delish and no added calories.  Plus it keeps ya hydrated! 

    -Spoil your appetite!  Eat something before you go out so you're not starving.  Everything is ok in moderation.... pay attention to what you're putting in your mouth though.  Make a little plate with reasonable portions and commit to yourself not to have anything else after you finish that! I chew gum a lot too when I know I'm going to be in a place that is going to tempt me with fattening food!

    I love the book "Naturally Thin" by Betheny Frankel!  She has awesome tips exactly for stuff situations like this!!!

  • I like the gum chewing idea ! Tonight we are going to a steakhouse for a friends bday then tomorrow we have a BBQ party to go to. I am thinking for tonight I will just order a salad and a glass of wine. I had a really big lunch so I should not be too hungry.

    Not sure about the BBQ. It is always hardest when there is a lot of food laying around. I like the idea of eating before I go. And sticking to a single plate of healthy options.

  • Let us know how ya do!  Another thing that helps me is constantly thinking, "Wedding dress..." Hahah, but I'm sure that goes without saying!

  • Vodka is still about 90 calories.  I'll have to remember the Crystal Light thing though.  I tried lemon vodka and water and it was icky.

    I like MGD64.  It's good!
