Destination Weddings Discussions

How many guest did you invite?

Hello Knotties!!

Since you all are planning to have a destination wedding, about how many guest did you invite and how many RSVPs did you get confirming their attendance? If you had your wedding already, than how many guest did you invite and how many guest ended up showing?

I have a weird scenario. My FI, his immediate family, my grandparents, and I live in Florida. However, the rest of (the BOTH of) our family lives in New York. They will all be flying down to Florida for our wedding. We are planning to invite 100-140 guest but I am nervous that maybe some people may not have the expenses to come to Florida for the wedding. I am just hoping that I have at least 100 guest at my wedding. So, I just wanted to know your input. Thanks! Smile

Re: How many guest did you invite?

  • We invited 34 and 24 are coming.  This is my second marriage and my first one was when I live in Florida and most of my family lived in Ohio and I thought most of them would not come down and much to my surprise, almost all of them did, they just turned it into their vacations.  So you might be surprised how many actually come.  Just  make sure you give them plenty of time to plan.
  • We've got a cap at 130 guests, but are doing A lists and B lists. I agree with Denise - I think a lot of them will turn it into their vacations. Are your families in NYC or NY state? We flew Jet Blue REALLY cheap from NYC to West Palm for my cousin's wedding last year.

    hth!

  • This is something I'm working on now. Our list is up to over 80, but I really only want/expect about 50 guests or so. It is a really hard guessing game! I'm getting married in Florida too, and a lot of people are spread out, but about half of our list is from Philly. I'm hesitant in inviting so many people because Florida isn't as hard to get to as like Mexico, from here, so I'm worried about inviting so many people and having them all show up, and then not being able to accomodate/afford them all.  FI and I are not having the easiest time on coming to an agreement on these aspects.

Mzelle, how did you do your A and B lists? Maybe we should give this a try, but I feel it's a little trickier with the DW since we are sending out our STDs soon, but the invitations won't go out for a long while.
  • We are inviting 92 and have about 35-40 definites so far.  And also about 20 that are not coming.  Sending the invites out this week so we'll see what everyone else does.

  • we invited 54 and we've heard from all but 7. we have 19 in attendance so far.
  • We invited 125.  We sent out STDs to everyone in February for our wedding next May to give ample time to plan.  Currently we have about 60 people say they are definitely coming, and 5 have already booked their hotel rooms (we haven't even booked our own room yet, haha).  I suspect we'll have between 60-80 people show up.

  • Wow! I can't believe the luck everyone is having with their guest lists! We invited128 and have only received about 12 yes's. We've received a ton of no's. But we knew most of our family and friends wouldn't be able to travel for the wedding so it wasn't a surprise to have such a low number.

I thought my situation was more the norm but apparently, my situation isn't! haha! :)

  • I agree with the PP's.  My FI and I said that we'd invite everyone as if our wedding was here at  home.  Haven't sent out STD's, yet but I'm guessing since our wedding is in FL others may turn it into a vacation.
I'm still working on guests lists so I can send out my STD's in October/November.
    Good luck!!!!
  • Thank you so much ladies!! At least now I have an idea. By looking at all of your numbers, it seems like most of you had a good turn out! I was getting a little worried, but at least now I have a better figure in my head. Laughing

  • We invited approximately 150, and so far have 45 coming, I think in the end we will have about 50 - 60 guests :)

  • I'm in the boat with Mel. We invited 100 and I think maybe 15 are coming. We really didn't expect a big turnout and the guest list shrinks as each month passes for different reasons.
