This ruined my whole day --- and I should have known better. I just need to vent to get over it
I need to send copies of FI and my birth certificate & passport to WC in Jamaica. Sure, no problem. I've heard not to go through the regular mail, so I drove down to our local FexEd and asked for help. I've never mailed anything internationally before, so I just took their word for it. When it came time to pay - it came to just over $75 for 5 sheets of photocopied computer paper... $75!!! They assured me that this was not only the cheapest, but the quickest option - I panicked, and just forked over my CC, thinking this must be the norm.
Then I walked out, having second thoughts, and called my Dad to see if this seemed normal. After checking with both the post office and UPS - I realized I made a pretty costly, dumb mistake. I got all the way back to work, only to realize I had dropped the documents off at an international service center and they didn't have a local, direct # (only a 1-800). So I jump back in my car, extend my lunch by way longer than I should, burned a few lights and ended up back at Fed Ex. Luckily it hadn't gone out yet --- and they were willing to refund my $ --- I learned a lesson to check prices. I usually do - but I was just so excited to get the documents off and running
This doesn't seem like that big of an issue, but I hate feeling like I got screwed, ya know? Whew. I feel a little better.
