Acne anyone??

OK, I don't know what is going on, but lately my face is looking like i'm 12 and going through puberty....LOL!!  Is anyone else having breakout problems and if so, what are you using for it?

Re: Acne anyone??

  • I actually posted about this last week because my face got sooo bad.. But my mom who is a Dr. told me to switch to Clean & Clear. It is the brand most recommended by Dermatologists and all of it has a low grade of salicyic acid.  So I use the foaming face wash, the deep cleansing toner and the moisturizer from them and the on the spot treatment.  I changed about a week and half ago. The first week all the zits I had went away- but then I was still getting little ones. But now my face is clear. My mom said it was all the impurities coming out of the skin the first week.    Clean & Clear uses a similar formula to Proactiv but it is gentler for all types of skin.

    Good luck!!
  • thanks Tricia - that's great info!

Another thing you can do for pimples that won't go away (for weeks, not days) is go to a Dr. and get a cortisone shot.  I had one on my brow bone for 2 months, got the shot, and it was totally gone in about 36 hours.

  • Thanks for your advice Tricia... I haven't had acne problems in a while but I think with the wedding coming up and the tension that comes with it my face is starting to break out here and there I want to make sure I have it under control before the wedding.  I'll definately try clean and clear now.
  • I've been having acne issues for about 6 months now. I tried several different brands of face products and none of them helped. I finally went to the dermatologist and he prescribed me a sulfa face wash and an antibiotic lotion. So far they're working really well and they aren't drying my face out at all.
I also had 4 really large cysts that had been there for over a month. He injected them with cortisone and 24 hours later they were gone! It was pretty cool.

So anyway I guess my point is that I wouldn't mess around with grocery store face wash and just go to the dermatologist...especially since your wedding is coming up and you don't have time to mess around.
  • I agree with Alison! I went to the derm a couple years ago cause nothing over the counter worked for me. He prescribed me a very mild face wash. It doesn't dry my face out or anything and it works really well. It's called Seb-Prev. I love it. I wash my face twice a day with it and there's no drying, redness or peeling.
  • welcome to my lifelong struggles! think ive finally got it under control!
i went to a great derma, she has me using cetaphil for my face wash and lotion which you can buy in stores, has me on some Rx stuff and has me going for microdermabrasion (like a facial) every month or so (thanks to insurance!).
so depending on how bad it is, i say start with a derma. appt.
everyones skin is different and if you get a good doctor, they can figure out your need!

  • I can relate. I've had acne problems since I was 13, and I'm 33 now. I tried it ALL, even Pro active and Rx creams from a dermitologist. My skin was not just broke out, I had cystic acne. It was so terrible. Finally it began to get better when I started going to an Esthetician. She spend a year getting my skin cleaned out with chemical pumpkin acid peels and good clean products made by Sunshine Living. So, ask about a facial or a natural treatment like a pumpkin peel. It will work wonders, but be sure to check your skin first so you're not allergic to anything. Also, try wearing mineral makeups like Jane Iredale. My skin changed dramatically when I stopped caking it with yucky makeup. My skin has been my life long battle with myself and I can honestly say these things have healed it. I hope this helps you....I just had a peel last week, getting ready for the big day!
