Wedding Dress just came in!!

I got a call earlier today that my wedding dress came in a full 2+ weeks before they estimated it would (and 5 months before my wedding)!!! Good timing too, as I'm going home for Thanksgiving on Wednesday (to Des Moines, IA, which is 5 1/2 hours away, so I don't get home all that often). I'm thinking of making some slight changes (possibly changing the flower detail on the shoulder, adding a crystal/rhinestone sash/detailing around the waist), so I could get some input from my sister, my best friend, and my FMIL (I'll be seeing her later in the weekend, but she's a wiz with accessories) when I go home. Squeee! I'm soooo excited to see it!

  • I tried it on at the salon and it's absolutely ENORMOUS on me--they couldn't even lace up the back it was so huge. I have lost about 20 pounds since I first went trying on dresses (although on my 5'9 frame that's equivalent to about 1 dress size down :SIGH:), and I'm if all goes according to plan I'd like to lose another 20 or 30 pounds before the wedding (so basically go down 2 or 3 dress sizes from my starting point--though my main goals are to decrease the size of my mother and grandmother-inherited sausage upper-arms and my double chin, which can only be done by just losing weight/fat and may not ever go away).

So there's going to be LOTS of altering to be done. Plus I want to add a beaded sash around the waist (which they held up for me in the salon, and it looked totally fab), and possibly change the flower and shoulder strap detailing (see picture of dress below).  I couldn't get a good glimpse of how the shoulder strap detailing would look since it was so enormous and it started in my arm pit instead of top of boob/just below collar-bone, but it looked good without the straps. If I do keep the straps, I may change what the flower looks like and then have a bunch of flowers on one strap that goes over the right shoulder and leave the other strap that crosses the chest completely off. When I was originally looking at dresses I LOVED dresses that had one strap with flowers (there's another Maggie dress I looked at that I liked a lot too that had the one shoulder detail with the flowers, but the flowers looked so cheap in person that it turned me off of it).
