Advice needed on wedding in Italy

Hello, does anybody have advice on planning a wedding in Itlay? Specifically ideas on any unique locations near Florence or rules and regulations to consider would be very much appreciated. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you. Kiwi

Re: Advice needed on wedding in Italy

  • I wish I could help you, but never been to Italy.  From what I have seen, it seems that the majority of the brides on here are getting married on an island/beach.  Sorry and good luck!
  • Thank you so much mn2italy and elizabella75 for your quick replies. I appreciate all your insight mn2italy that you were able to provide! Yes we indeed do still have to do a lot of research as Italy does not seem to be easiest country to plan a wedding in. Where are you actually getting married?

  • Glad to help! Compared with some other countries, Italy is actually kind of easy to get married in (Mexico requires a blood test and 3 days residency). But of course there is extra paperwork and some different marriage laws, just as there will be in any foreign country.

We're getting married at a hotel in Sorrento. You can view pics in my bio (click on the text below that says My Planning Bio). Our hotel does not charge a rental fee as long as we hold the reception there. This was our way of saving a little bit of money.

Like I mentioned above, we are using Exclusive Italy Weddings as our wedding planner. Here is a link to their list of Florence locations <--- click here. Click on the links under Ceremonies and Receptions and then click on Photo Gallery to view photos of each site. Kind of confusing the way they have the site setup.

Let me know if you have any more questions :-) HTH.

  • Hi Kiwi,
I am an American living in Rome and getting married just outside of Rome this May. There is a bit of paperwork for an Italian wedding but nothing that is impossible, especially if you live near an Italian Embassy. There are different requirements for religious and civil ceremonies. Do you know which you would like to do? I know for Catholic ceremonies in Italy they are a little more strict because of the Vatican. However with everything said, I can tell you that there are plenty of Americans or english speaking people living and working in Italy that can help with flowers and photos and paperwork. If you need any advise, please ask! I am getting married at Borgo di Tragliata... http://www.tragliata.it/
It is about 40 minutes from Rome but it is great cause they have a small church on site, they do the reception and dinner there (its a working organic farm), and I believe they can house up to 150 people in apartments and rooms on site. I know I sound like a salesperson for there but they have been great in getting everything planned for me as I have been too busy to do it. :)

Anyway, it is definitely do-able and if you decide to get married in the Rome area, let me know and I can give you a few english speaking vendors.

    CIAO!
