Hair/Makeup Take II

TK ate my first post so here goes take two....

Just a quick question for you gals - have you started booking your hair and makeup for the big day?  I'm doing some research right now and just not sure if it's too early to book.  TIA! :)

Re: Hair/Makeup Take II

  • Yes, i've had mine booked for awhile but thats bc my regular hair person is doing my hair and my eyebrow lady is doing my makeup (she also did mine and my sister's makeup for her wedding so Ive seen her work)....
  • No I haven't yet. I'm just a little upset about paying so much for the make up end of it. The hair not so much, but I usually don't wear make up period. I've went to MAC for a free trial and it came out horrible. The eyes looked great but I looked like I had a ton of foundation on, and I don't where foundation period unless I'm going out and it's really light. I'm really upset about having to actually pay for these trials.

  • I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do about makeup. I've had my hair planned for a while; a friend of my MOH's is doing it (she used to do my hair regularly).

I am also having a hard time wrapping my head around how much the makeup portion will cost.  Part of me wants to just say screw it, it's one day I want to look amazing and then the other part of me just cannot imagine spending that much. It's so annoying that EVERYONE jacks up prices just because it's a wedding.  I'm going to keep doing some research and maybe book something in the next month or so.

I feel this same way. I wear a light powder every day and no foundation. I walked in to MAC and they told me that to do a trial I had to buy $55 in products. The girls there were very pretty, but their makeup looked caked on and I could see their foundation clumping up. I went in to Sephora, and they told me I had to spend $50 in products for a makeup trial. I'm having a really hard time coming to terms with this. I'm not sure what to do.

  • My hair is being done by my regular stylist. No idea about the makeup end yet...

  • I've had it booked for myself and my girls at the spa that's in the Inn where we're getting ready. I finally found someone that will do airbrushing so I'm considering switching makeup people as I won't lose my deposit since we're still getting hair done at the Inn. I have a trial scheduled for the 24th to decide if airbrushing is the way to go.

  • I'm having a friend do our hair and I am thinking of taking my girls to MAC to get our makeup done.  I've gotten my makeup done at their counter several times and I've always loved the way my makeup looks.  I'll buy the $50 worth of product that you have to get and that will be part of my bridesmaids gift.

  • I booked my hair and makeup person in August, so I can make payments to them.. I didn't want to be surprised with a bill the day of my wedding. It is quite a bit of money, but  I feel like it's worth it to be pampered.. like going to the spa!
You can always do your own makeup, or just get airbrush foundation and do your own eyes (my SIL did that and she looked perfect!)

  • I booked mine in early October. She was recommended by people on my local board, as well as my photographer. I wanted to make sure to get it set up before she was taken. I will probably have my trials in the late summer.

  • Yes, I found a Salon/Day Spa near the hotel we are staying at the night before and booked the date right away for myself and the MOH.  They offered wedding packages there so I can get my hair, makeup, and nails done, but will have to get there very early in the morning to get started, thats ok though, makes it less hassle running around to different locations.

  • I'm looking for someplace to do my hair and any of my bridesmaids who want professional hairdos as well. Considering my regular salon, but there's another one tempting me because it's closer to the venue and has a separate room for the bridal party to hang out and bond in. Like PPs have said, I have a tough time parsing how expensive it costs to have makeup done! I was originally planning to have my MOH do it, but she's moving to California in two weeks and that leaves us with no time whatsoever to do a trial and figure out the look. So I asked at Sephora...not only does that place intimidate the hell out of me, but there's no way I want to pay 50 bucks for products I'm never going to use again! (I wear pretty minimal makeup on a daily basis and know very little about applying it.) So that's all up in the air...I guess I'll have to price salon packages that have makeup included and see how it shakes out.

Booked that in August! The place I'm using is one of the most popular in the area, and books up really quickly. They are coming to the bridal suite, so my girls and I don't have to go to the salon on wedding day.

Thanks everyone! All of your posts make me feel better.  I'm going to see if I can get this booked soon.  Definitely don't want to do it myself that day so will have to suck it up and pay the $$.  I'm sure it'll be worth it!
  • I'm gonna go the odd duckling route. I think I will learn how to do my own makeup. I wear makeup a lot and there are some great tutorials online. Creep the DIY board, those ladies are always posting pics of their makeup. I might go to the Clinique counter and get my usual lady to try something, but since I buy my makeup there anyways its not a huge deal for me to buy product. Hair I already have booked. Trial will be in July once my hair is a little longer.

  • I haven't booked either yet but I just got an email for a special for hair and makeup for $120 if I book by 3/17.  It seems to early to me, but figured I don't want any surprises.
We are getting married in Las Vegas so no trials for me, I'm just going to wing it and hope for the best!
I was a little concerned about spending so much but FI said go for it so it's been budgeted for.
My FBIL's wife does hair but I feel awkward asking her since she doesn't normally do my hair.  PLUS I have a short pixie cut so literally the hardest part of my hair is sticking the hair comb attached to the veil into my hair, lol!
The make up is the hard part.  I don't wear it, ever.  I have an outdoor, physical, very dirty job and I'm a tomboy anyway so the most makeup I usually wear is eye liner and mascara, and that's on special occasions.  But I want to look a little more gorgeous that day, so I'll splurge and hope that the reviews on TK stand true. :)
So it looks like I'll be booking that soon, didn't think I would need to book it that early but I might as well take advantage of the special deal.
