FYI cashing checks after wedding

So yesterday FI and I went to the bank to make a deposit and the teller recognized FI and I from our wedding announcement that had been in the paper that morning (we felt like celebrities, lol).  Anyways, she said that when we get checks for the wedding with my married name on it from guests, that I should endorse the check with my maiden name and then my married name because my account is in my maiden name. 

If you haven't thought of this, you might want to check with your bank to see what their policies are.

My bank won't accept my married name until all the paperwork is done. 

When I give cheques as wedding gifts I always make it out to either the bride or groom (whoever I know better) and include a little note that says I've made it out to one person to avoid hassles at the bank.

I'm slightly worried about this since I'm not changing my name at all but I think we'll be fine if FI endorses and deposits the checks into our joint account for any checks written out to Mr. & Mrs. FI. We use a major international bank though and I think it's smaller, more local banks that have stricter rules about it (the bank where I have my own personal account I know is like this.) I'm definitely going to ask the next time I'm at the bank though! Thanks!

I'm a little nervous about this as well!  Like PP said, if FI puts the check in since his name will be on it, then we should be fine!

Don't have to worry about this since FI and I already have the same last name

I'm not changing my name and FI and I do not have a joint bank account yet (even if we did, I'm keeping my name, so it wouldn't be Mr and Mrs FI).  I really hope that people make checks out to either FI's name or to just my maiden name.  Hopefully, this won't be too much of a problem.

We've gotten a few checks made out to both of us. I put both in our joint account at Chase and had no problem with it. I maye have my DH (soon!) endorse the ones after the wedding if any have his last name for me and I haven't changed my name yet.

My bank has you endorse it with the name written on the check, and then your legal name, so the opposite.

Ugh, I hope we didn't get any written to both of us. We don't have a joint account.
