Changing my name on Facebook

I want to change my last name on Facebook, but I want to make sure my maiden name stays on there too so old friends can find me.  Should I just change my last name to read "Maiden Married" or do I change my last name to Married and put my maiden name as my nickname?  I see that some girls have their married name and their maiden name is in parentheses but I'm not sure if the maiden name is searchable that way.  I'm not sure which option is best.  Thanks!

  • I'm not sure if it is searchable if it is in parentheses.  I just did mine Alexis Maiden Married.

  • There's an option when you change it for making you searchable by your maiden name.  Facebook doesn't actually let you put parentheses in your name, so maybe what you're seeing is the searchable by another name or people who did that before they changed the rules.
  • I changed to my married name and half the people didn't realize it was me LOL

they are like WHO the heck is Melissa (last name) :P

I would put your maiden name as you nickname... just an idea...
  • Mine is Firstname Maiden Marriedname. Most of my friends who are recently married have done the same thing.

  • I know people that did their maiden in brackets. If you go to change your name it gives you the option of displaying an alternate name.  And yes, the alternate/maiden name is searchable.

I think you're right - I think the name is parentheses is whatever someone put as their 'nickname'.

  • Go to "account settings" and click "edit" next to name. Put your new namewhere it says "first" and "last", and your maiden name under "alternate" name. It will be in parentheses, and you are able to search by it. My maiden name shows up in the search and on my profile, but not when I post on someone's wall- if they weren't sure who I was they'd have to click on my profile.
