readings?

i want to have 2 of my nieces do a reading together they < will be 11 and 9> . maybe alternating lines!

any suggestions for reading?

what readings are you using?

Re: readings?

  • For our Catholic ceremony, we have to pick one from the old testament, one from the new testament, a psalm, one gospel reading, and then the prayer of the faithful.

I havent narrowed down actual readings yet, but our priest gave us a book and i read through them real quick and starred the ones i like, idk what kind of ceremony your having, but if its catholic the cultural wedding board has links to common readings you can pick out.

As for your nieces reading one and alternating lines, i think that would be sweet!

we are both catholic < didnt want to deal with all the things a catholic church makes you do...precana marriage counsuling, giving us issues cause we already live together, etc ect />and the ceremony is way too long for me.

we are also having 16 kids at our wedding so they wouldnt make it that long either lol <13 nieces and nephews between the 2 of us, a child i have been babysitting since he was 2 he will be 5 this month and my bf's 2 kids /> ...SO we are not having a religous ceremony!  we are getting married outside by an officiant!

  • We're doing two readings. This one will be by my 11 year old nephew...

Excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but Really loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get all loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

  • I'm having one of my aunts read an excert from Great Expectations. It is my favorite novel and she has always fostered my love of literature.

"That was a memorable day to me, for it made great changes in me. But, it is the same in any life. Imagine one selected day struck out of it, and think how dfferent its course would have been. Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day."
