  • Keeping it. And not preserving it. FI wants to be able to play dress up with me and re-create the wedding night ;) I'm pretty sure he's joking, though.

  • I have no idea yet.  Part of me wants to preserve it and then use some of the material to make a christening gown, but the other part of me wants that closet space.  We'll see what happens.
  • I think I just signed on with some local knotties I've became really close to for a Rock the Frock photo shoot lol, one of their FIs is a photographer.

    Then I'll probably keep it.

  • I woulld like to do a trash the dress shoot (wihout acutally trashing it), have it cleaned and altered into a cocktail dress that I can wear for our anniversary dinners. The rest I would have made into a christening gown for future babies.

  • Hmmm. I hadn't really thought about this. I love my dress and I'd hate to get rid of it or alter it in any way but I'd love to wear it again. Maybe I'll keep in my closet and play dress up lol.

hilarious!!!!  i'm not really sure what goes into preserving a gown, so i'm not doing it.  i have a dream of my future daughter wanting to wear my dress, so i'm just going to keep in a closet.  i had thought about a "trash" the dress session too, but decided against it.  and i would not want to cut my dress up or have it altered becuase i never wear white anyways.
  • I'd like to do a "trash" the dress shoot.  I have a few ideas for it that don't involve the dress being damaged.  But other than that I plan to store it at my mom's and maybe have it preserved.

  • Keeping it, depending on the price I will preserve it. Once my MOH gets married her and my other friend who was married in June are going to do a photoshoot in our dresses.

  • Mom wants me to preserve it but I don't think I'll have the money...I'll probably get it cleaned and hang it for possibly my future daughter. I think it would be fun do do an afterwards bridal shoot with it when I won't be TOTALLY worried about ruining it! Maybe involving a field and some coyboy boots and going for a totally different look than I am for the day of.

  • I plan to play in the sand with mine the day of the wedding unless it rains.  If it rains, we are going to take the dress with us on our honeymoon and do some pictures.  Then it will hang in our closet and I will probably have it made into a christening outfit.

  • I joke around with everyone that i plan on wearing it everyday after the wedding.  I keep telling my coworkers its going to be really fancy in my dept for a little while after I get back.  I did buy the perservation kit from Davids Bridal so eventually I may perserve it.

  • Keeping it to wear on anniversaries! haha! Laughing

  • I will make the decision based on how destroyed it is after the wedding.  I've read posts on other boards that their dresses were ruined after the reception.  My dress poofs out quite a bit and I'm sure it will get stepped on/spilled on a lot.

  • I'm going to keep it, and speak with a dry cleaner about preserving it.  I'm not really sure what goes into that...

If I have a daughter one day, and she wants to wear my dress, great.  If not, great.  I have a swarovski crystal sash that I bought to go with my dress, so I definitely want to find another use for it.

  • I'm really not sure what I'm going to do with it.  Before I bought it, I thought I was going to sell it or donate it.  Once I found it, I can't imagine giving it up.  I think I'm going to wait and see how I feel after the wedding day.

  • it was my mother's dress..so i am preserving it.and hoping maybe my daughter will use it someday since I had it modernized.

  • As much as I love my dress, the odds of passing it down to future generations are slim to nil, and I want my closet back. So I'm going to try and sell it. Failing that, I'll donate it instead. My veil came from the Wedding Classifieds board here and I think that as long as it's still in good shape I'll try to resell that, too. I like the idea of it becoming a Knottie heirloom, LOL. I'm keeping my headpiece and accessories, though. Those can be my mementos and possible 'something old' for future family members.

  • I plan on doing a Trash the Dress session without actually trashing it. My dad is a photographer so I think it'll be a fun thing to do with him.  I have some ideas!

After that, I'll have it cleaned and I'll put it in my closet until I figure out what exactly I'd like to do with it. Styles change so much so I'm not really thinking about a future daughter wanting to wear it 30 years from now, but who knows I guess!
  • I am doing a trash the dress. I am not worried too much about it getting destroyed. I love the pictures I see of women with paint all over them, so I want to have my daughter and nephew just finger paint all over me.

  • I don't know!!!  At first I was adament about either selling it or donating it to a breast cancer organization, but now that I finally have it, I love it!  It's kind of timeless, but I think the odds of me being able to pass it down to a daughter, assuming I a) have a daughter, b) she likes the style, and c) is the same size, are pretty slim.  I don't know yet.....I will figure it out after the wedding.

  • I'm donating mine. My grandmother was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer earlier this year, and it actually runs pretty prevaliant in our family. So I found this amazing organization Brides Against Breast Cancer.

  • after all the money I spent on it I am certainly not trashing it, although cute ideas I have seen...
a local girl out here did a trash the dress shoot 3 days after her wedding in the river...(where she wasn't suppose to go) and the current caught her, pulled her under and all that extra weight, she drowned... (just a few weeks ago) ... there was nothing the photographer or her husband could do... scarey

My dress is so long I am sure it will be dirty on the bottom by the end of the night/ even bustled it still drags...

will probably use the skirt part to make a chiristining gown... and have the rest altered into a cocktail dress or something... I don't know haven't decided yet lol
  • Probably keeping it and preserving it
  • I've been all over the place with this one. I wanted to keep it, then preserve it, then sell it, or even give it away. I can't fathom giving it away because I spent so much money on it. I think I will lean towards keeping it and not preserving it so I can wear it some day if I want to :)

  • My mom bought the dress, so what gets done with it is up to her. She preserved hers and I chose not to wear it. If she wants to sell it, great. If not, I really like achi's suggestion of shortening it into a cocktail dress.

  • My FI said the same thing ... I really have no idea what I will do. My mother still has her dress, and I have always loved taking a peek at it. My SD is 12, and her mother bought two dresses when she remarried - I only gave birth to boys. I don't think it will take up much closet space, I suppose I will hold on to it for a while.
