For Ones Honeymooning in Carribbean!

My fiancé and I want to honeymoon in the Carribbean. I know that that time of the year is Hurricane season. For the ones that have already booked, are you worried about it being hurricane season? We will purchase travel insurance but I am really wanting the weather to be great!

Re: For Ones Honeymooning in Carribbean!

  • We're doing a cruise in the Southern Caribbean for our honeymoon in October and I'm not too worried about hurricane season.  I can't allow myself to stress out about something that may or may not happen.  Now, that doesn't mean I won't keep checking the weather constantly before we leave and we did purchase travel insurance, just in case...

Where are you thinking of going in the Caribbean?  Our cruise leaves from San Juan PR and travels to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten.

  • We are not worried.  We went to Jamaica last September and there was no problem.  We did get trip insurance though and we will again this time.

  • Nope. We are going to Cancun, Mexico. I've done a cruise before in October. It rained the day we got on the cruise but otherwise it was fine.

  • No need to worry I have traveled the Carribbean, twice during Hurricane Season, and the weather was stunning!!

We are going to the Dominican Republic, and I was starting to stress over rain...then i did search on the weather history...and for the most part the week we chose the weather is typically beautiful...im looking for to the honeymoon more than the wedding right now!! HAHAHAH  :)

  • We are going on a cruise in the Caribbean and I am not worried at all because I have been on a cruise in the middle of the hurricane. All they did was move the ports of call. I think I might be a little worried if I was going to a specific island rather than a cruise.

We are thinking of staying at the Excellene Playa Mujeres.
  • I think you should be fine as long as you get the travel insurance.  We went on a cruise at the end of October last year, so about the same time as our honeymoon this year, and we were fine.  The water was a little chilly when we went to cozumel, but the weather was amazing!  We laid out on the beach the whole day and I didn't want to leave.

  • We're going to Jamaica and I was initially very concerned about hurricane season, but my travel agent assured me that she's had some of the best weather when vacationing in the fall. We're just playing it safe with trip insurance!!

  • If you're worried, you can go to the islands outside of the hurricane belt- Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Also, you could try vactioning on the Pacific side of Mexico. We're going to Cancun, and I'm not worried at all. I have hurrican insurance, but I think the chances are small.

  • I have cruised in October to the Caribbean before, there were no problems at all. You can't predict the weather so who know what can happen this year. But. if you are cruising they literally just change the course of the ship to avoid the storm if there is one.

  • We are doing eastern caribbean, its usually fine in oct. Im not worried about it. We are doing a cruise of course we got the trip insurance just in case
  • We are going to Jamaica for our honeymoon...so yep, hurricane season.  I'm not worried because we have trip insurance.  Like PP, I'll still be checking the weather before just to make sure I know whether we'll be able to fly there or not...Just because it's hurricane season doesn't necessarily mean a hurricane will hit.  The chances are pretty small.  But yeah, since it is still their rainy season technically, there will probably be some rain but I know people who went during the rainy season as well and they said the rain lasted for a little bit and stopped, usually late in the day.  It's not like the entire trip, it rained the whole time.

Weather is unpredictable so you really run the risk anywhere you go that the weather might not be perfect.  Book your trip, buy the insurance, and enjoy your honeymoon!  :)

We're going to Jamaica and were originally very concerned about the prospect of hurricanes. Originally we thought, well yeah we could get trip insurance, but if there is one the thing that will upset us would be not being able to take our honeymoon right away- that's something that's very important to us. We both work at jobs where we can't just switch the week of our time off- we'd have to take the vacation anyway then save up holiday time before we could take another one.

We decided that if the worst happened (and it's such a low probability anyway) we would drive down to North or South Carolina- a trip we could make in one day's drive, and vacation at a hotel somewhere around there that would be nice, but that we wouldn't have to book way in advance. We could still enjoy a honeymoon, then go to Jamaica when we had saved up more vacation days.

Once we had a back-up plan that we were happy with, we were no longer worried about booking!
  • I am a worrier and I was worried about it. We're waiting until December to go. :)
