October 2012 Weddings

Am I behind?! Where are you guys planning wise?

So I've found a dress and that's about it. The FI and I have to travel into Houston to look at venues and it's hard with work, so we haven't found a venue we're really happy with. Our goal is to get that on lock THIS MONTH!!
I'm starting to freak out though. Are we really that behind? Where is everyone else?

  • My venue is reserved, and we are paying it off little by little.  My dress and all accessories are hanging in the closet, away from FI's prying eyes.  STDs went out, invites have been ordered and arrived, Florist will be decided on next week.  Photographer is my brother-in-law, tuxedos have been dealt with......

    You're not behind persay- I mean, there's still 7 months.  But the venue is really the biggest thing.  You'll feel better when it's settled!

  • Probably the only reason I'd be concerned is that at 7 months a lot of places are already going to be booked, especially if your date is on a Saturday. Same thing with photographers and caterers. The rest of it I wouldn't worry about too much!

    I have my dress & accessories, picked out BM dresses last week (they haven't ordered them yet), venue booked, photographer and caterer booked, STDs printed but not mailed (haven't finalized our guest list yet), and one of two registries completed.

  • I have my venue/caterer, photographer, florist, baker, dress and accessories (except shoes), invites will be ordered this week. I don't have a wedding party so I don't need to worry about that stuff but I'm not sure what FI is wearing yet. As PP said, venue is the big thing.
    It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • So far I have... my dress, my moms dress, FMIL's dress, tuxedos are picked out, bridesmaids dresses are in the process of being ordered, florist booked, venue booked with includes the catering and alcohol, dj, bridesmaid gifts bought, groomsmen gifts bought, pillars for the ceremony bought, photographer booked, std's sent out, in the process of making a must have music list, bought my veil, vases for the girls to put their bouquets in after the ceremony, registered and bought passports and booked my honeymoon.... Wow i didn't realized how much i had done already.. but then again ive been engaged since 2010. Your not really behind but I would be worried about my venue. You can definately plan a wedding in 7 months.

  • I wouldn't be do worried, people have planned a wedding in less time.  Your first priority should be booking your venue so you can get your date set. 
    So far we have all the major things booked: venue (catering & alcohol included), DJ, Photography & videography, Party bus, centerpieces in process of getting, invite kits purchased, my dress, & STD's just went out this week.  Appts have been set up to look at bridesmaida dresses & tuxes.  Most of what we have left are the little things.

  • We've booked every one of our vendors except the invitation company, and I'm doing that this week.

    In my area the good vendors (like my florsit, who only does 2 weddings per weekend) get snatched up fast so I've had everyone booked for awhile.

  • All of our vendors are done, dresses are ordered and save the dates have gone out.  Our next steps are invitations, tuxes and getting a handle the overall "theme" for our wedding.  We're not doing a theme wedding, persay, but are thinking about what personal touches and what elements of our personalities we want to incorporate. 

    We're also starting the marriage prep classes at church this week, which I'm excited about.  I feel like we've focused so much on the party aspect of the wedding and not the actual marriage ceremony itself, so it will be nice to take a step back and work on what the day is all about!

  • I feel like I'm behind too but in reality I know everything will work itself out...eventually. We've got the church + reception venue taken care of. My dress is ordered. Should be here in late May. BM's dresses 2/3 are picked...just waiting on my sister to pick hers. The guys know where they're gonna get their tuxes but feel its not nesessary to shop until like 3 months out (small town) STD's ordered they should arrive Monday. We're meeting with our potential photographer Tuesday. This has been the hardest thing because either they're way out of our budget, booked, or looking at their work I could have taken better photographs! DJ is kind of set. We really need to get that taken care of with the deposit and contract. If not there are other options so I'm not worried we may just have to spend a LITTLE more than we wanted. Catering is basically set FMIL is kinda taking care of that she told them they would have a final answer by June. Flowers we're ordering bulk and FI's cousin in law is going to do that for us (she's done weddings before) Cake I've gotten a few quotes but I'm so lost with that. Guest list is basically done. I just hate that we can't invite more people our age because the old people don't want to stay and have fun! So I feel like the DJ and fun stuff will go to waste but I hope I'm wrong! We're looking into honeymoon options but at this point we have no idea what we'll do. We haven't even asked the preacher to marry us either! I want to use someone who isn't at my church. That's all I can think of...

  • I've only booked my venue and looking for save the dates and photographers now.  I  also am getting married in Houston but don't live there so I can relate.  It was a pain trying to get the venue booked from out of town.

    All of our vendors are done as well. Centerpieces are designed we just need to pick up the remaining 15 vases and flowers. My dress has been ordered as well as the BM dresses. Still need to find my soon to be step dtr a dress but she grows so quickly we need to wait until September to buy. STD's have been sent out. We have started speaking with our officiant (who is also my BM father) about the ceremony but haven't came to any conclusion on it.

    Our next step is to finish paying everything off, figure out tuxes, order invitations (although we have the wording complete and style selected), programs, bridal party gifts (no idea what to get them!!) and we still have some extras to order and pick up (i.e. sand ceremony kit, ceremony decorations, bubbles etc)
    Still need to figure out what we want for a cake but i'm not overly worried about that.

    I've really had most things planned for a while and have just been waiting to put the plans into play :)

  • Like others have said, book your venues, you'll feel alot better after that.  I was just think about posting something like this because I feel SO far behind and have no idea what I'm doing or what we still need.

    I'm designing and printing our STD's and Invites
    I'm also doing the table numbers, seating chart, popcorn/candy bar
    My dress,veils, and undergarments purchased
    Card Box
    Table # holders

    Working on:
    Flower Girl/Jr. Bridesmaid Dresses
    DJ
    Florist
    Cake
    Traveling hair/makeup people

    Making a list of things to do tonight...Can you think of anything I'm missing?

    We've done:
    -Chapel
    -Reception site (includes food & table cloths)
    -Photographer
    -Invitation kits
    -Wedding shoes for me


    ...and that's it. I don't even have my ring yet! FI won't officially propose until i've met his parents (he is military) and we are flying out to New York to do that next week. I refuse to try on a dress until I have a ring on my finger, call it superstition or what-have-you but I keep telling him he better get his butt in gear!

  • There is seven months left but you are a bit behind. I have my reception and ceremony venue booked. I have my reception planned out. I have my dress and accessories, all of my wedding party's attire, I sent out save the dates and I bought all of my invitations. I have the bouquets. We booked our honeymoon too. We are doing our registry this month too.

  • Well we have a little more planned then you but not much. We have our church and reception site booked which includes catering & bar etc. We also have the priest ready and have done part of our requirements done for the church. I've looked at dresses and I'm pretty close to choosing one, it will be shortly after Easter hopefully. We are going to look at tux's this week so we can decide on the color of the bridesmaids dress and get a discount if we book by April 15th. I've looked at flowers and decoration stuff and have lots of idea's in my head but nothing official. Hoping to book the photographer after Easter as well and decide on invitation's and save the dates by this weekend. That's most of the big stuff, I have a few florist's and dj's in mind but haven't met with them yet. That will happen in April or May I believe. We've talked about honeymoon but haven't booked anything yet. I'm pretty sure what rings we will go with but will wait a while to buy them.

    I feel really behind when I look at what other's have booked and planned etc but a lot of the girl's on here that are pretty much done have been engaged for a while and we've only been engaged for about 3 months. We booked our venue right away because they were getting booked fast. Hope this helps and makes you feel not so far behind. I've done a lot of looking and have lots of idea's but not much official just yet. SOON!

  • Everyone keeps assuring me seven months is plenty of time, but I can relate to feeling behind! We just got engaged the last weekend of February. So far we have the following completed:

    - Reception venue (which includes caterer, open bar/bar service, our hotel for the wedding night)
    - Ceremony venue and officiant
    - Photographer booked
    - DJ booked
    - STDs ordered and arrived (need to address and send out)
    - Completed registrations
    - Blocked off rooms for out of town guests

    In the works:

    - Ceremony plan
    - Florist chosen and had preliminary meeting
    - Bridal salon appointments booked for both me and my bridesmaids (one bridesmaid has her dress)
    - Honeymoon is being booked
    - Wedding cake tasting booked
    - Engagement shoot booked
    - DIY favor supplies ordered

    That's about it. We've only been at it three or four weeks, so we're still getting to the smaller details. That's been my game plan, get the BIG stuff out of the way early!
