October 2012 Weddings

Introduction & Hello!

Hi ladies!

I've been looking primarily on the Minneapolis/Saint Paul board, but as the date is getting closer (51 days! eeek!) I realized I needed to chat with brides who are at the same planning stages as me.

So here are a bit of our details;
We're getting married on October 27th in Minneapolis and our reception is in Saint Paul. Thankfully it's only a 20 minute drive between the two locations. We are sending out our invites today-303 people invited and 156 invites sent. Wowzers! (I wanted to get them out a week ago but we are still within the 6-8 week mark, so I didn't stress too much. Plus we sent save the dates to over half our invite list back in March/April.)

My dress is an ivory mermaid style. Alvina Valenta #9105. The six  bridesmaids are wearing a black Jim Helm dress, style 5125. The guys will each wear a black tux with black vest and a blush pink tie. My fiance will wear the same but with a black tie.  We are having a 'formal attire requested' wedding. No black tie, but men formal without sounding stuffy as much of our extended family is small town and will attend a formal wedding with khakis and a polo. (Which is perfect for a summer wedding or a more casual wedding, but our reception site won't allow that.)

Our 'theme', I use that term loosely b/c my fiance thinks of Mickey mouse club or pirates every time I say, 'Our theme is..', the Rat Pack. Basically we're imitating the style back them and the swanky vibes. Black fedoras, cat eye glasses, lots of cocktails and amazing music. Plus our first dance (shhhhhh!) is a choreographer routine to 'Fly Me to the Moon,' which we always sing to each other.

Anyway, that's the general rundown. Feel free to comment, offer advice, suggest ideas or just 'say hi.'

Thanks!!

  • WELCOME

your wedding sounds like it is going to be a blast... love all thinks rat pack...
    and the dance! AWESOME!!!

  • Thanks for all the wonderful feedback!! I'm super stoked to have some help and to help a few others too!

The Rat Pack theme doesn't include flapper dresses etc. It's more of a 'wear you nice duds and get ready to have a party!' ;) We're having a traditional Catholic ceremony (not a nuptual mass, as I'm WELS Lutheran, not Catholic) and a formal reception, but will a lot of sassy that is reminicent of those times.

Here are some "Rat Pack" throwbacks
Signature cocktails will be two different kinds of martinis-named after two Frank Sinatra songs.
The photobook props will all be themed, black fedoras, black feather boas, fake cigars, black cat eye glasses, playing cards, fake cash, poke chips and the old school microphones from back in the day. Still looking for more ideas.
The guys are wearing the skinny European type suits with the skinny ties that are popular now but Dean and Frank made popular in the 50s. Maybe the late 40s??
The girls' dresses are very sophistocated and a tiny bit sexy. Like back in that time.
Our first dance (choreographed! yay!) is to 'Fly me to the moon,' by Frank Sinatra.
Our cocktail hour mustic is all from that era. Think of Pandora set to Rat Pack-It's so good!;)
Our table names are all Rat Pack or Sinatra song titles.
My hair will be pulled back and thave the pin curls in the bun/chigon to spruce it up.
Our mini moon will be in Las Vegas-where the Rat Pack used to hang out all the time.

Any other ideas would be wonnnnnderful!
