NWR: "Extreme Couponing" on TLC

Anyone watched it? I was just flipping channels and found it...I literally can't believe my eyes. On the one hand I think it's cool that these people save sooo much money and will probably never run out of food/household items. On the other hand, it's totally insane how much time and effort they're putting into the whole process. And seriously, some of their shopping trips (before the coupons) amount to more than I have in my checking account right now.

Thoughts?

I've only seen the commercials, but seriously, that seems like it must be a full time job! I'm super impressed by the savings, but I just don't have that kind of commitment. Also, I don't like my shopping to be totally dominated by coupons. If I have a coupon for something I need, great; but I won't buy something just because I have a coupon for it!

  • I cannot believe that show!  The amount they save is unbelievable! I watched that tonight and thought I'm going to start doing that...WRONG! lol After about 15 minutes I gave up because it's actually really hard to do.  And @acwm I totally agree-I would never buy something just because of a coupon. Buy only what you need, that makes more sense.

  • i watched it last night!

i can not believe how much money these people save.  i, however, would rather not have my house full of 3000 rolls of toilet paper and enough chips to feed 80 people!

<div>Agreed. I like my closet space in my house, thanks.</div><div>

  • @jackie- Hahah that's so funny! My FI watched it with me too and he thought it was too over-the-top. Although the money they save is super awesome.

Definitely agreed about how much space it takes up in their homes. I would never be able to fit that amount of products in our apartment. I also agree it seems like they buy way more than they need. Like, that one woman who bought 62 bottle of mustard? Who would need that much mustard!?
  • I couldn't do it honestly.. I would lose half to the "kids got ahold of it" catagory lol. In all seriousness though I don't have the time nor patience. I couldn't stock up on that much stuff anyway. My household is ever changing so it just wouldn't be a good thing. Amazing how much they save though!
  • My FSIL is a couponer but not at all to that extent!  my FI and i have used some of her suggestion and ended up saving 30 dollars on a 80 dollar trip once! and we did not spend that much time look for coupons.  She actually has a website that breaks down all the coupons, where to find them and how to use them for the full benefit. Her website is Thesaratogasaver.com she lives in Saratoga ny, if you are interested in checking it out!
