Opinions needed!

So, I am planning on ordering these tin birds as a cake topper of of etsy (clicky). I have been looking at them for a while but haven't had a chance to really sit down and figure out ordering them.

I am talking with the seller about customizing them, as I want to use the colors gold, ivory and brown. But I am not entirely certain how to coordinate them, so I want help. The birds will be sitiing on a very simple cream colored cake. The stand is a deep metallic gold and will also be sitting on a tree stump.

She sent me some examples that she made

I am liking the gold bird with the brown doily on it for the girl, and then an ivory boy bird with his bowtie, which is an off-white and brown striped ribbon.

What do you girls think?

Your examples don't work! :( It's asking us to log into Etsy.  Can you save the pictures locally and add them to the post?

  • Dang it, and duh, that makes sense as to why it worked for me. My computer recognized me. Yes, I will save them and just upload them.... one moment please, lol.
  • I also like th gold with the brown lace.  Do you have a picture of the groom one with the bowtie?

  • I love your color ideas.  I'm not sure though whether it will look too plain having one of the birds in ivory on top of a cream-colored cake.  Maybe do gold with brown for the girl, and brown with ivory for the boy?

  • Lenergy - My thoughts exactly.... with the ivory bird on the ivory cake. But I also am not sure if I love the idea of brown bird with brown striped bowtie. The listing that she has up, which I linked in the first paragraph has a white bird on a white cake and I think it looks pretty good.

ystaalenburg - the link I posted has the bird with the bowtie, the colors will just be different.
  • What if you do both birds in gold and then have the bowtie on the boy and the lace on the girl?  That way they are unified but they will still stand out from eachother.

  • Does the bowtie have to be brown stripe? Could it be ivory or ivory/gold stripe instead?  I agree that a brown bird with a brown stripe tie wouldn't look so great.

  • I don't know if I want the birds to be the same color is the only thing, I want them to be coordinating as opposed to matching. I will ask her about changing the ribbon for the bowtie tho, that might be good. Maybe I could do a gold ribbon with a brown bird?
