October 2012 Weddings

When is everyone sending out their Wedding Invitations?

I'm curious when everyone is sending out their Wedding Invitations?  Our Wedding Date is 10-13-2012, and the RSVP's enclosed will have a date deadline for a month before since we have to have our official count 3 weeks in advance.  My fiance and I were in a little argument of when we should send them out, he thinks we should send them out in June, but I think thats way too soon.  I was thinking maybe the middle of July.

Re: When is everyone sending out their Wedding Invitations?

  • My wedding date is the same day.  I'm sending mine out in August.

  • I've been wondering about this same question. I was thinking 3 months in advance, but I guess two would be sufficient enough.

  • We are having a destination wedding (Las Vegas) so I am sending them out 3 months (12 weeks) ahead of time.  I know that with the STD's and already by word of mouth people are preparing for it, but I'd like to have enough time to chase people down for responses and get back to the vendors as far as head count.  That will help us plan the at-home reception too.
Otherwise I think I'd probably just do 2 months (8 weeks) ahead so people didn't lose the invite or forget all about it.

  • I agree that June is way too soon. I am a firm believer in the 6-8 weeks before the wedding rule. I work as a nurse and would never know my schedule more than 2 months in advance. I also think you will end up with more people RSVPing one way then changing their minds. Also, your venue needing the count 3 weeks in advance us not cool. I understand you can't change that, but 2 weeks seems like plenty of time for them to get things situated. I always wonder why venues need more than 2 weeks.

  • We're sending ours out 2 months in advance, that's pretty standard for a non-destination wedding

  • Guess I didn't catch in my first post, but our RSVP's are due 2 weeks before, not 3 weeks before.  I thought maybe if I have the RSVP deadline a month before it would give me a little cushion time in between to call the guests who didn't rsvp.  I still think June is way too soon to send them out, think people would just set them aside and probably forget about it.

  • FI's British and most of his family is there or in Malta, so we're actually sending them out in two waves.  Venue needs final count a week ahead of time, but we're putting RSVP date a month in advance. Within-US invites go out a month before that, and international invites are going out about four months in advance.
  • I am sending ours out at the end of July (like, in the mailbox on July 31).  Then the respond by date is September 28, which is 4 weeks before our wedding of 10-26.

Our venue wants a head count at the 3week mark, and everything paid for one week before the wedding, so it's understandable.  Since majority of our guest list is family, I told my mom that anyone who couldn't find a phone or a mailbox would be an automatic 'NO'.  There's only about 5 people that this doesn't apply to- everyone else can kiss it.

  • I feel the same way about some of the family on my guestlist that i'm not too close with, if they can't pick up a phone or send the rsvp back then i'm marking them as an automatic no.  Thanks for the responses, I knew June would be too soon. if he is dead set on it i'm thinking about letting him mail out his invitations to his family and friends early and I will mail out mine later.
