Escort Card Question

I personally always find it hard/confusing to find my name in a layout of escort cards at a wedding.  Now that I'm printing my own, I'm wondering if I can make it any easier...

Normall they are printed:

John & Jane Smith
Table 1

Is it a terrible idea (I don't care about etiquitte) to print the escort cards like this?  Make the last name more pronounced/obvious.

~Smith~

I need your opinions because FI will tell me I'm overthinking it  :)

What happens when the couple has two different last names?

I honestly think I only have like 3 of them, so either they get separate cards (not preferred), or they get a card with both last names.  The majority of our guests are single, or "and guest" (yes, they dont have a SO so they're bringing some random person to the wedding).

I think either would be fine -- the new set-up would certainly make it easier to find your card, but which layout looks better on your cards?

I just have plain DIY cards.  They're white with a silver border... that's it.  I think I'll have to print a test page and just look at it.

I printed two test cards and showed some co-workers.  They all liked the last name at the top, so I think I'll go with that.

    Thanks for your opinions!

I think that is a great idea. I hate standing at the table looking for the card!

Confession - FI has three cousins who are married and did not take their husbands last name. FI is so old school and wants to address everything Mr. and Mrs. His Last Name. I could care less either way.
